A note from Scott: We are now just three days away from the June 12 start of the nominations round of voting to determine this year’s Primetime Emmy nominees.
I’m writing from Newport Beach, where a ton of contenders attended the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest — which was a blast — between Thursday and Sunday, including Melanie Lynskey of Paramount+ with Showtime’s Yellowjackets, Sterling K. Brown of Hulu’s Paradise, Billy Bob Thornton of Paramount+’s Landman and three people with whom I recorded episodes of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast that will post in the coming days: Kate Hudson of Netflix’s Running Point, Sam Rockwell of HBO’s The White Lotus and, receiving a hero’s welcome in his return to, well, the O.C., Adam Brody of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This.
In other news…
The frontrunner in most of the limited series categories, Netflix’s Adolescence, swept the Gotham TV Awards on June 2. On June 4, The White Lotus stars Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood, supporting actor and actress hopefuls respectively, finally addressed rumors of a supposed feud between them. And Prime Video announced the cancellation of its comedy series Étoile on June 6. It’s a bummer because, while the show is not for everyone and was always a long shot to land noms, voters just lost any incentive to check it out and, for those who already had checked it out and liked it, to vote for it.
