Well now, let’s talk about this here Giver of Stars movie, the one they say is on Netflix, or maybe gonna be, or somethin’. I ain’t too good with all this newfangled technology, ya know? My grandbabby, she’s the one who fiddles with that Netflix thingy.

So, what’s this movie all about? From what I hear, it’s a story ’bout some women in Kentucky, way back in the old days, durin’ that Depression time. Times were tough then, real tough. Folks didn’t have much, and books? Well, they were a luxury, not somethin’ everyone had layin’ around.

These women, they were like book-packin’ mules, ridin’ horses and bringin’ stories to the folks in the mountains. Imagine that! Brave gals, I tell ya. Ridin’ through all sorts of weather, just to bring a little bit of sunshine to those lonely mountain people. That’s what they call “historical fiction“, I think. Means it’s a story, but based on somethin’ that coulda happened, or maybe did happen, a long, long time ago.

  • They call it The Giver of Stars, this movie, and the book it’s from.
  • A woman named Jojo somethin’-or-other, she wrote it all down.
  • Reese Witherspoon, that actress gal, she liked it so much, she put it in her book club.

Now, some folks get all mixed up, thinkin’ this Giver of Stars movie is the same as that other movie, The Giver. But that ain’t right. That Giver movie, that’s a whole ‘nother kettle of fish. It’s about some perfect world, where folks don’t feel nothin’, good or bad. Then some young fella starts rememberin’ stuff, all the hurt and sadness and war. Sounds kinda gloomy, if you ask me. You can watch that one on Netflix too, but it ain’t the same story, not by a long shot. This Giver of Stars is different, see? It’s about real people, facing real hardships, and findin’ a little bit of hope in books.

They were makin’ a movie outta this Giver of Stars book, that’s what I heard. Universal Pictures, that big movie company, they bought the rights. Some lady named Catalina somethin’, she was gonna direct it. But then, well, I don’t know what happened. Movies take a long time to make, ya know? Lots of fussin’ and plannin’ and such.

So, can you watch The Giver of Stars movie on Netflix right now? Well, that’s the million-dollar question, ain’t it? I ain’t seen it on there myself, but things change so fast these days. Maybe it’s comin’ soon. Maybe it’s already out on them DVDs or somethin’. You youngsters, you know how to find these things. You go on your computers and your phones, and you figure it out. You can probably watch that other Giver movie on Netflix right now, but for this Giver of Stars, you might have to wait a bit, or maybe pay to rent it or buy it somewhere else, like that Google Play place or Amazon.

This whole movie thing, it’s kinda confusin’ to an old woman like me. Back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy ways to watch stories. We just sat around and listened to each other, or maybe read a book if we were lucky enough to have one. But I reckon it’s good that folks are still tellin’ stories, whether it’s in a book, on a screen, or just sittin’ on the porch swing, spinnin’ a yarn. It’s important to remember where we come from, and the hard times folks went through, like those women in Kentucky, ridin’ through the mountains with their sacks full of books. They brought a little bit of light to a dark world, and that’s somethin’ worth rememberin’.

So if you’re lookin’ for a good story, somethin’ with heart and grit, keep an eye out for this here Giver of Stars movie. And if you can’t find it on Netflix, well, don’t give up. Good stories are worth searchin’ for. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll remind you to be thankful for what you got, even if it ain’t much, ’cause there was a time when folks didn’t even have books, let alone movies on demand.

And remember, this here Giver of Stars movie, it’s set during the Depression, and it’s about strong women, so it might just make you appreciate how easy we got it now, even with all the fussin’ and complainin’ we do. It’s always good to look back and see how far we’ve come, ain’t it? And maybe learn a little somethin’ along the way.
