Alright, listen up, y’all. Gonna tell ya how to do this here… uh… how you call it… “cite” somethin’ from that Netflix thingy. You know, them picture shows they got? Yeah, them documentaries.

Why you gotta cite this stuff anyway?

Well, I reckon it’s like this. If you’re gonna go around tellin’ folks stuff you learned from somewhere, you gotta say where you got it from. Otherwise, it’s like stealin’ chickens, you know? Someone else did the work, you gotta give ’em credit. That’s what my old pappy used to say, God rest his soul.

Okay, so how you do it? It ain’t as hard as milkin’ a cow with three teats, that’s for sure. But it ain’t exactly like pickin’ daisies neither. There’s different ways, see? Like them city folks got their own ways of doin’ things, all fancy and such.

  • The Fancy Way (APA Style)

This one’s for them college kids, I guess. They like things all neat and tidy, like a freshly plowed field. First thing you gotta do is figure out who made the thing. That’s the director, or the producer, somethin’ like that. You write their name down, last name first, like Smith, John. Then you put in parentheses when it came out. Like, (2023). Got it?

Then you gotta put the name of the show, you know, the title. Make it all fancy with them slanted letters, like this: My Old Farm Life. Then you gotta tell folks it was on Netflix, ’cause that’s where you saw it. And if it’s a special episode, you gotta say that too. Like, Season 2, Episode 5, “The Big Corn Harvest.”

So it ends up lookin’ somethin’ like this:

Smith, J. (2023). My Old Farm Life [Netflix series]. Season 2, Episode 5, “The Big Corn Harvest.”

See? Not so hard. Just gotta remember all the little bits and pieces.

  • The Other Fancy Way (MLA Style)

Now, this here MLA way, it’s a bit different. They like to focus on the title first. So you start with that, My Old Farm Life, all slanted and pretty. Then you put the director’s name, but you say “Directed by” first. Like, Directed by John Smith. Then you say who put it out, like Netflix, and the year it came out, (2023).

So it looks somethin’ like this:

My Old Farm Life. Directed by John Smith. Netflix, 2023.

See the difference? They kinda flip things around, them MLA folks.

But What If I Don’t Know All That Fancy Stuff?

Well, look, sometimes you just don’t know all them details. Maybe you forgot the director’s name, or you can’t remember the exact year. Don’t fret none. Just do the best you can. The important thing is to tell folks where you got your information. Say it was on Netflix, say the name of the show, and maybe give a little description if you can. Like, “That show about the old farmers on Netflix, it said…”

Why All This Fuss Anyway?

I know, I know, it seems like a lot of trouble just to tell folks where you heard somethin’. But it’s important, you hear? It’s about bein’ honest and givin’ credit where credit’s due. And it helps other folks find the same information if they want to learn more. It’s like sharin’ your prize-winning pumpkin seeds, you know? You help others grow somethin’ good.

So there you have it. That’s how you cite a Netflix documentary, or at least, that’s how I understand it. If them city folk tell you different, well, you can listen to them too, I guess. But this way works just fine for me. Now, go on and learn somethin’ new, and don’t forget to tell folks where you learned it. And don’t go stealin’ no chickens, ya hear?

Remember, whether it’s APA, MLA, or just plain talkin’, the important thing is to be clear and give credit where it’s deserved. And if you’re using a website or somethin’ to help you make these citations, that’s alright too. Just make sure you understand what you’re doin’ and why. It’s all about bein’ honest and sharin’ knowledge, like passin’ down a good recipe for apple pie. And that’s somethin’ everyone can understand, city folk and country folk alike.

Now, go on and watch them documentaries, learn something, and tell the world about it – the right way! And if you get confused, just remember, even an old hen like me can figure it out, so you can too.
