Alright, let’s talk about them movie places in New Bedford, ya know, where ya go to watch them big pictures. Folks around here, they like their movies, I tell ya. Always lookin’ for a good time, somethin’ to do, especially when the weather ain’t so good for farmin’ or fishin’.
Movies in New Bedford, that’s what we’re talkin’ about. Now, there’s a bunch of places you can go. Some are big and fancy, like them city folk like, and some are just plain good enough for the rest of us. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with a good, plain movie theater, I say.
First off, ya got yer AMC over in Dartmouth at the mall. That’s a big one, lots of screens, lots of movies. They got them new ones, the ones everyone’s talkin’ about. And they got them comfy seats, ya know, the ones that recline a bit? Not like the old days, lemme tell ya. Back then, the seats were hard as rocks, and ya had to sit up straight the whole time. But these new seats, they’re somethin’ else. You can almost fall asleep in ’em, they’re so comfy. But mind you, the popcorn and snacks, they charge an arm and a leg for ’em. Highway robbery, I tell ya!
Then there’s the Showcase over in Seekonk, on Route 6. That’s another big one. They got all the new movies too. And they got that big sound, the kind that makes the whole place rumble. Sometimes it’s too loud, if ya ask me. But the young folks, they like it loud. They say it makes the movie more excitin’. Me? I just want to be able to hear what the actors are sayin’.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ a little cheaper, there’s the Picture Show at the SouthCoast Marketplace. It ain’t as fancy as them other ones, but it gets the job done. They got the movies, and the seats ain’t bad. And the prices are a bit more reasonable, which is good for folks like me who ain’t got money to burn.
- AMC Dartmouth Mall 11 – Fancy and big, but pricey.
- Showcase Cinemas Seekonk Route 6 – Loud and big, also pricey.
- Picture Show at SouthCoast Market Place – Cheaper, not so fancy.
And then there’s the old Strand Theatre downtown. That place has been around forever. It’s a real beauty, all old-timey and grand. They don’t always show the newest movies, but they have special events and stuff. It’s worth goin’ to just to see the inside of the place. It’s like steppin’ back in time, I tell ya. They got all that fancy stuff on the walls and ceilin’, not like these new places that are just plain boxes.
If ya just wanna know movie times in New Bedford, well, you can look ’em up online, or in the newspaper, if they still print them things. They got all the movie listings there, tellin’ ya what’s playin’ and when. Or just drive by the theater, they always have the times posted up outside. That’s what I used to do. But now they have this here “internet” thingy, all the young folks use it all the time.
Some folks like to go to the movies early in the day. They call it a matinee, I think. It’s cheaper, ya know, for the early birds. And it ain’t so crowded. Me, I like to go in the evenin’. After supper, when all the chores are done. It’s a nice way to relax and unwind. And it gets me out of the house, ya know? Sometimes, it feels like these walls are closin’ in on me.
And speakin’ of relaxin’, them new seats, they sure are somethin’. I remember when ya just had plain old seats, hard and uncomfortable. Now they got these recliners, these rockers, even these heated seats! It’s like sittin’ in yer own livin’ room, only with a giant screen in front of ya. And that sound, oh boy, that sound. It’s like yer right there in the movie, with all the explosions and the music and the talkin’.
Now, where ya sit in the theater, that’s important too. Some folks like to sit right up front, close to the screen. Me, I don’t get it. It’s too close, I say. Ya gotta crane yer neck to see the whole thing. And it’s too loud up there. I like to sit in the back, or in the middle somewhere. That way, ya can see the whole screen without movin’ yer head, and the sound ain’t too loud.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a movie theater in New Bedford, or just want to check out the newest releases, you got plenty of choices. There’s somethin’ for everyone, from the fancy to the plain, from the expensive to the cheap. Just find what suits ya, and go have a good time. And don’t forget to bring a sweater, sometimes they crank up that air conditioning so high, you’d think you were sittin’ in a meat locker! And that’s about all I gotta say about movie showtimes and places to see ’em ‘round here. It’s a good way to spend an afternoon or evenin’, get outta the house, see somethin’ different. Just don’t spend too much on that popcorn, I tell ya, it ain’t worth it.
And if you’re lookin for somethin special, like them IMAX or 3D movies, well, you gotta check them listings to see who’s got em. Not every place shows them fancy kind. But some do, if that’s what you’re lookin’ for. Personally, I don’t see the point. A movie’s a movie, whether it’s jumpin’ out at ya or not. But that’s just me. Young folks, they like that kinda thing. Makes it more excitin’, they say. Me, I just want a good story and a comfy seat. That’s all a body needs, ain’t it?
Anyways, you go on now and enjoy your movie. And don’t forget to tell me all about it when you get back. I like hearin’ stories, even if they ain’t real.
