Well, I don’t know much, but I heard tell there’s some new Jesus movies comin’ out. Folks are callin’ ’em “Christian movies,” I reckon. Sounds fancy, but I just wanna know if they’re any good.
Now, some of these movies, they say they’re all about faith and such. Faith, that’s important. Like plantin’ seeds in the spring, gotta have faith they’ll grow, even when the ground’s hard and the sun’s beatin’ down. These movie folks, they makin’ movies about faith, I guess.
- One movie, I heard, it’s called “Ordinary Angels.” Comin’ out in February, they say. Made by the same folks who did that “Jesus Revolution” one. Heard that one was pretty good, lots of folks talkin’ about it down at the store.
- Then there’s another one, “Unsung Hero.” That one’s about some folks named Smallbone. Happened back in the nineties, they say. Sounds like they had a hard time, but they kept the faith, just like we do when the crops fail. Gotta keep goin’, that’s what my Ma always said.
They sayin’ there’s a bunch more comin’ out too, before Christmas even. My goodness, that’s a lot of movies! I don’t go to the theater much, too expensive, and my old bones don’t like them seats. But maybe, just maybe, I’ll go see one of these Jesus movies.
These movie makers, they makin’ all sorts of stories, some about folks in the Bible times, like that “Jesus Revolution” one. The Bible, now that’s a good book. Got all sorts of stories in there, teaches you right from wrong. These movies, maybe they’ll teach somethin’ too.
I heard some folks sayin’ these movies are “inspiring.” Inspiring, huh? Well, I get inspired watchin’ the sunrise, or seein’ a new calf born. But maybe these movies can inspire folks too. Maybe they’ll make folks think about bein’ kinder, helpin’ each other out. That’d be a good thing, Lord knows we need more kindness in this world.
And they’re callin’ ‘em “faith-based movies” some folks are. Well, faith is what gets you through the hard times, ain’t it? When the well runs dry, or the roof leaks, you gotta have faith it’ll all work out. Maybe these movies show folks how to keep the faith, even when things get tough. That’d be a good lesson for everyone, not just us country folk.
It sounds like some of these new christian movie at theaters are about love and forgiveness too. Love, that’s what Jesus talked about most, didn’t he? Love your neighbor, even when they’re bein’ a pain in the neck. And forgiveness, well, that’s hard sometimes, but it’s important. Gotta let go of that anger, or it’ll eat you up inside like a boll weevil in the cotton.
I ain’t too sure about all this Hollywood stuff, but if these movies are tellin’ good stories, stories about faith and love and kindness, well then maybe they’re worth watchin’. Maybe they’ll remind folks what’s important in life. It ain’t about fancy cars or big houses, it’s about havin’ faith, lovin’ your family, and helpin’ your neighbor. That’s what I believe, and that’s what I hope these movies are about.
They sayin’ these movies showin’ all over, even in the big city theaters. Well, I hope folks go see ‘em. Maybe they’ll learn somethin’, maybe they’ll feel somethin’. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll leave the theater feelin’ a little bit better about the world. That’d be a good thing, wouldn’t it?
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do, and you wanna see a story about faith and hope, maybe go check out one of these new Christian movies. They might just surprise you. And who knows, maybe they’ll even remind you of that old lady down the road, the one who always says, “Keep the faith, child, keep the faith.” Cause that’s what it’s all about in the end, ain’t it? Just keepin’ the faith.
I reckon that’s all I gotta say about these new Christian movies. I ain’t no movie critic, but I know a good story when I hear one. And if these movies are tellin’ good stories, stories about faith and love and hope, well then that’s somethin’ worth supportin’. So go on, go see a movie. And don’t forget to bring your popcorn.
