Well, howdy there, y’all! Let’s chew the fat about somethin’ called a “horror movie script contest.” Sounds fancy, huh? Basically, it’s like a big ol’ competition where folks write scary stories for the movies.

What’s this “horror script” thingamajig? It’s just a story, ya know, like them books you read, but it’s written all special for movies. Gotta have folks talkin’, and things happenin’, all that jazz. And if it’s a “horror” script, well, it better be spooky! Like, real spooky, the kind that makes your hair stand on end.

Now, these contests, they’re a big deal for some folks. See, if you win, you might just get your story made into a real movie! Can you imagine? Your scary tale up there on the big screen, makin’ folks jump outta their seats! That’d be somethin’ else, wouldn’t it?

  • Prizes and Such: Some of these contests, they give out money! Big money, sometimes. Enough to buy a whole mess of chickens, I reckon. And other times, they give you fancy awards or even help you get your movie made.
  • Who’s Judgin’?: Well, it ain’t just any ol’ body. These contests, they get big-shot movie folks to read your stories. Producers, writers, folks who know their scary movies. So, if they like your story, you know you’re doin’ somethin’ right.
  • Long or Short: Some contests want long stories, like a whole movie’s worth. Others just want a short little scare. Kinda like a ghost story you tell around a campfire, but written down all fancy-like.

I heard tell there’s a whole bunch of these contests out there. Some are just for horror, and some let you write about other things too, but they give a special prize for the scary stuff. Like that “WriteMovies Horror Award,” they’re lookin’ for the best scary story out there. And they got these big-wig mentors, Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen and Scott Glassgold, helpin’ folks out.

And then there’s “Screamfest,” sounds right scary, don’t it? They read all the scripts, every last one, and they got real movie people doin’ the readin’. So, if you send ’em somethin’, you know it ain’t just gonna end up in the trash.

Some folks even do these pitch contests now, just a one-pager about your scary movie idea. Like a quick little taste to get folks hooked. That “WriteMovies Script Pitch Contest” is new, they say. Guess folks are gettin’ too busy to read whole stories these days!

Now, I ain’t gonna lie, some folks say these contests ain’t worth a hill of beans. They say it costs too much to enter, and too many folks are tryin’ to win, and you only get somethin’ outta it if you’re the best of the best. And that “Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Contest,” they give out a whole lotta money, like eighty thousand dollars! That’s enough to make a fella think twice.

But shoot, if you got a scary story burnin’ a hole in your pocket, why not give it a whirl? You never know, your story might just be the one that scares the pants off everyone! Just remember to make it good and spooky, ya hear? Gotta have monsters, or ghosts, or maybe just some real creepy people doin’ real creepy things.

So, what makes a good horror script, anyway? Well, it gotta be scary, like I said. But it also gotta make sense, kinda. Can’t just have stuff happenin’ for no reason. Gotta have characters folks care about, even if they’re just gonna get et by a monster later on. And it gotta have a good ending, somethin’ that makes you go “whoa!” or maybe even leaves you a little bit scared to turn off the lights.

And don’t forget to make it original, ya know? Ain’t nobody wanna see the same old monster movie they seen a hundred times before. Gotta give ’em somethin’ new, somethin’ they ain’t never seen before. That’s the ticket, I reckon.

So, if you’re thinkin’ about enterin’ one of these horror movie script contests, I say go for it! What’s the worst that could happen? You don’t win, big deal. You just write another one! And who knows, maybe one day your scary story will be up there on the silver screen, makin’ folks jump and scream. Wouldn’t that just beat all?

Anyway, that’s just my two cents. You youngsters go on and do what you please. Just try not to get yourselves into too much trouble, ya hear?
