This here new movie theater Edmond OK, you hear me? It’s the talk of the town, I tell ya! Folks are flocking to it like flies to honey. They say it’s fancy, this Icon Cinema. Big screens, fancy seats that lean back. They even say “VIP Seating” I don’t even know what that is.
I heard it’s right there on Danforth Road. You can’t miss it, they say. It is near N. Bryant Avenue, that big road. Used to be just fields and cows out that way, but now? Now it’s all built up. Progress, I guess. But a new movie theater? In Edmond? Well, I never!
They got all them new movies, too. The ones with the loud noises and the fast cars. My grandson, he’s all excited about some superhero movie playin’ there. He went on and on about how amazing it is. He keeps talking about “IMAX.” Sounds like a type of medicine to me.
- Big, comfy chairs that lean back
- Lots of different movies to choose from
- Snacks! Popcorn and candy and such
- Easy to find on Danforth Road
He says IMAX is like, being in the movie. Like you’re right there with the action. Sounds a bit much for me, if you ask me. I like my movies simple. Good guys, bad guys, maybe a little singin’ and dancin’. But the young folks, they love all that fancy stuff. It is an “immersive experience” whatever that means. They say the screen is huge and curved and some such thing. It is supposed to make you feel like you are in the movie.
I heard there’s another one of those movie houses in Edmond, too, the ShowBiz. That one is on Market Street, I reckon. That’s another new place. Edmond is growing like weeds after a rain, I tell ya. They say the staff at the ShowBiz is real nice too and they have arcade games. My grandkids love those things. Waste of money, if you ask me, but they have fun. And they got all those new movies coming out soon, too. Like that “Wicked” movie. Is that a scary one?
Now, this new movie theater Edmond OK, the Icon one, it’s got folks excited. They say you can even buy your tickets online. Imagine that! No more waitin’ in line, I guess. Though I do enjoy a good chat with folks while waitin’ in line. That’s how you hear all the news, you know? But these young folks, they’re always in a hurry. They are always looking at their phones. They want everything right this very minute. It is like that saying, “haste makes waste”.
I remember back when we had that old drive-in theater. We’d pile in the car, the whole family, and watch movies under the stars. Those were the days. Mosquitoes were bad, though. And sometimes it’d rain, and you’d have to huddle up in the car. But it was fun. And cheap! Not like these fancy new places. They charge an arm and a leg for a bucket of popcorn! It is highway robbery, I say.
They say this Icon Cinema has something called “The Forge.” It is probably some action movie. And what is this “Moana 2 Ticket to Adventure”. Back in my day, we had Mickey Mouse. He was a good one. These new characters, I don’t know what they’re about. But it’s all for the kids, I suppose. And who is this “Gladiator II”. They just can’t leave well enough alone.
If you want to find this here new movie theater Edmond OK, just look for 73034. That is what they call a zip code. Every place has one. Helps the mailman find you, I reckon. But now, folks use it to find places on their phones. They got these maps on their phones, you know. It’s like magic! They just type in the address, and the phone tells ’em how to get there. I don’t understand it but that is what they do.
Well, I guess this new movie theater Edmond OK is a good thing for the town. Keeps the young folks entertained. Gives ’em somethin’ to do besides get into trouble. And maybe I’ll even go see a movie there myself sometime. If they got a good Western playin’, maybe. Or a nice musical. But I’ll probably wait till the crowds die down a bit. I don’t like being around too many people. Too much noise and fuss. I prefer to sit on my porch and watch the birds. That is entertainment enough for me.
They say this new place is the “premier movie experience” whatever that means. All I know is going to the picture show was always a treat when I was young and I reckon it still is. These new places might be fancy but I sure hope they don’t forget what makes a movie good. It ain’t the fancy seats, I tell ya. It is a good story. That is what matters. I’ll be waiting to hear if these new movies have good stories. That is the true test. Not the fancy seats.
