Well, I heard there’s a new movie theater in White Plains. Yep, a brand spanking new one! Right there where that old Showcase used to be. You know, the one down at the City Center? Lord, it’s been a while since I been to the pictures. But this new place, they say it’s fancy. Real fancy.
This new place, it’s called Apple Cinemas. Sounds like they got apples or somethin’. Maybe they give you an apple with your ticket? Wouldn’t that be somethin’? Back in my day, you were lucky to get a hard candy, let alone a whole apple. But I’m gettin’ off track here.
They say this Apple Cinemas in White Plains is gonna be somethin’ else. All new seats, the kind that lean back. Can you imagine? Leaning back in your seat at the picture show? My old bones could sure use that. Used to be, you sat on those hard seats, and your backside would be numb by the time the movie was over.
- They got all new stuff.
- Big screens, like you wouldn’t believe.
- And the sound! They say it’s like you’re right there in the movie.
I heard they gonna have one of them BurgerFi places right there in the movie theater. I don’t know about all that stuff, but I guess if you got to get food before you watch your movie in White Plains you can. In the old days you had to sneak your snacks in your purse or coat pocket and hope the man taking tickets didn’t see. Burgers and movies. What will they think of next?
They say this place is gonna have all the new movies. The ones with all the young stars. I don’t know who any of them are, but the young folks sure seem to like ’em. I remember when a ticket was 25 cents. A quarter! And you got to see two movies for that! Plus a live show! Can you believe it? Times sure have changed.
But this new movie theater, it sounds like it’s gonna be a real treat. They say it’s gonna be the best place to see a movie in White Plains. Better than that old place, that’s for sure. That place was gettin’ a little run down, if you ask me. Needed a good scrubbin’, that’s what it needed. But people like to watch movies in the theater rather than at home. I don’t know why. That’s how it is.
They even got these machines where you can get your own popcorn. Imagine that! No more waitin’ in line for some grumpy teenager to scoop you some popcorn. You just do it yourself. I don’t know about all that. Seems like a lot of work to me. But I guess that’s what the people want these days.
This Apple Cinemas, it’s gonna be the place to be, I reckon. Everyone’s gonna want to go there. It’s gonna be the talk of the town. I might even have to go myself, just to see what all the fuss is about. And see one of them new-fangled movies with all the special effects. Maybe I’ll even try one of them reclining seats. See if it’s as comfortable as they say.
I heard the mayor, Mr. Roach, talkin’ about it. He seems real excited about this new theater in White Plains. Says it’s gonna be good for the city. Bring in more people. More business. I don’t know about all that. But I guess a new movie theater can’t hurt. People sure do like going to the movies, so it’s good that they have a good theater to go to. It’s a good thing to watch the newest movies in the theater, instead of watching at home.

So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do, you might want to check out this new movie theater. It sounds like it’s gonna be a real hootenanny. Just don’t forget your wallet. I hear the tickets ain’t cheap these days. But then again, what is? The movie “palaces” that could hold thousands of people appeared in the big cities in the 1920s. People like watching movies in the theater, and I am one of them.
I reckon I’ll have to go down there and see it for myself. Maybe I’ll see you there! Just look for the old lady tryin’ to figure out how to work the popcorn machine. That’ll be me!
