Well, well, well, lookie here, it’s almost that time again! National Horror Movie Day 2023, they call it. October 23rd, mark it down! Time to get the goosebumps and the jumpscares. This old gal, I’ve seen a thing or two in my time, let me tell ya. Some things you can’t unsee, even if ya want to. And these scary movies, they remind me of those times, the stories my grandma used to tell… Shivers, I tell ya, shivers!
They say this year got some real screamers. I heard folks talking ’bout somethin’ called “The Witching Hour.” Sounds spooky, right? Then there’s that “Haunting of Hill House” thing. Houses ain’t supposed to be haunted, I always say! And don’t even get me started on that “Conjuring” stuff. Part 3! Like the first two weren’t enough to make ya sleep with the lights on!
Then ya got that “It: Chapter 3”. Clowns. Why’s it always gotta be clowns? Nobody likes clowns, ‘cept maybe other clowns. And “The Grudge,” “The Invisible Man”… Lawsy, they’re makin’ movies about everything these days. Back in my day, we just had the boogeyman under the bed. Simpler times!
They got this other one, “The Curse of La Llorona.” Sounds foreign, but scary’s scary, don’t matter where it comes from. “Doctor Sleep,” what’s that about? A doctor that makes ya sleep forever? “Annabelle Comes Home”… Dolls are creepy. Always watchin’ ya with them big eyes. And then they got “The Curse of the Werewolf.” Werewolves! I always say, keep an eye on your neighbor, you never know!

This National Horror Movie Day 2023, they say it’s a big deal. Folks are gonna be watchin’ their favorite scary movies, all day long. Some people even have parties, can ya believe it? Parties for bein’ scared! Young folks these days.
I remember one time, back when I was a little girl, we watched this one movie… “The Exorcist,” I think it was called. Scared the bejeezus outta me! I tell you what, watch it during the day, that’s my advice. When the sun is shining. Don’t be watching it when it is dark, no sir!
I hear folks talkin’ about how these new movies, they find ways to scare ya with real-life stuff, like social issues. Fancy words for sayin’ they make the scary stuff seem even more real. And they got all these fancy ways of makin’ the movies look all stylish and gory. They say it is exciting. I just get scared! This National Horror Movie Day 2023, I might just stay home with the lights on.
These 2023 horror movies, they all got something for everyone, I guess. Small movies, big movies, sequels. They even had that one from that fella, M. Night… somethin’. “Knock at the Cabin,” that was it. People say he’s good at the twisty stuff. Makes ya think. Too much thinkin’ for me, though. I just wanna cover my eyes and scream!
They say 2023 was a good year for these scary movies. Lots of ’em came out. And this National Horror Movie Day 2023, it’s supposed to be the first one, on October 23rd. They say it’s a good day for a horror movie marathon. Just watchin’ scary movies all day long.

And why October 23rd, you ask? Well, it is close to Halloween. You know, that holiday where kids dress up and get candy from strangers! But they say that is not the only reason. I don’t know the other reason, to be honest. Maybe because the weather is getting cold and it is getting dark early.
I don’t know much about this National Horror Movie Day 2023 stuff. But if you like gettin’ scared, then I reckon it’s your kinda day. Just remember what this old gal said: watch ’em during the day, and maybe keep a light on. And don’t trust no clowns. Or dolls. Or werewolves. Or invisible men. Or grudges. You know what, just stay inside and lock the doors! That’s what I’m gonna do. You can never be too careful.
