You know, this winter is coming soon, and I heard them young folks talking ’bout them new snowboard movies. They say it’s real exciting, them going down the mountain on them boards. I don’t know nothing ’bout it, but they sure get a kick out of watchin’ them videos.
They say there’s a whole bunch of these new snowboard movies out there now. More than you can shake a stick at! Seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harry’s got one of them fancy cameras and is makin’ their own movie. They go up on them big mountains, all covered in snow, and they slide down real fast. Sometimes they do jumps and flips, and my, oh my, it makes my heart jump just thinkin’ about it! I hope they are wearing enough clothes. You know, you can catch a cold in that weather!
They was talkin’ ’bout one movie where these fellas were jumpin’ over all kinds of things. Said it was real “epic”. That’s what they said. Don’t know what that means, but it must be somethin’ good, ’cause they was all hootin’ and hollerin’ about it.
And then they was goin’ on about the pretty views in these snowboard films. Said the mountains was all white and sparkly. Like a Christmas card, they said. I reckon that’s somethin’ to see. I ain’t never seen a real mountain myself, just pictures in them magazines. They showed me one of them movies with them big, white mountains. Looked cold, but real pretty. Like a whole other world up there.

- They got all kinds of ’em.
- Some is just regular folks slidin’ down the hill.
- Others is them professionals, doin’ all them fancy tricks.
They say that it gets them “stoked” for the winter. It is a good word. You know them young people always get excited when they talk about going up on them mountains. You need snowboard pants and snowboard jacket, and they told me about them “gopro”, I don’t know what it is, but sounds expensive! If you wanna make them movies, you need one, it seems.
They talk about watchin’ those snowboard movies while doing something to their boards. “Waxing,” they call it. Sounds messy to me. But they like it. Makes them happy. That’s a good thing. And you know, they watch those movies on the big TV. And they get all excited and talk about going to the mountain. They say it’s the best thing in the world.
I heard them sayin’ there are a whole lot of them new snowboard movies this year. Some of the best snowboard films, they called them. It is about their “season”. They go every year, it seems. And they call that their “shred trip”. I don’t know. They always come up with new words for me! I heard they can get their minds excited for the upcoming winter by watching those movies.
One of them young fellas told me there’s a movie about someone called “Gigi”. They talk about “top pirate crew snowboard shots”. Don’t understand half of what they are saying! But sounds exciting to them, and that’s good. And another thing, they was sayin’ there’s a place called “Red Bull TV” where you can watch a bunch of these snowboard movies.
They say there are so many of them snowboard movies now, it’s hard to pick which ones to watch. They said they watched a whole bunch of ’em to find the best ones. Must be nice to have that much time on your hands! But it is good that they are having fun.
These kids and their snowboard movies! It’s a whole different world from when I was young. We didn’t have no fancy cameras or TVs. We made our own fun, playin’ outside and such. But times change, I reckon. And if these movies make ’em happy, then that’s all that matters. It is better to let them do these than staying at home doing nothing.
Maybe I’ll ask them to show me one of these new snowboard movies sometime. See what all the fuss is about. Might be fun to see them mountains and all them tricks they do. Who knows, maybe this old lady will learn somethin’ new! But I sure ain’t goin’ up on no mountain myself! No sir! I’ll leave that to the young folks. They have more energy. And I think it is too cold up there!
