I heard they got that one, AMC 84th Street 6, folks say it’s good. And that AMC Lincoln Square 13, that’s another big one. They show all them new movies, the ones with the loud noises and the fast cars. They got good sound, I reckon, makes your bones shake.
Then there’s that other one, Film at Lincoln Center, they call it Walter Reade Theater. Fancy name. I guess they show them artsy movies there, you know the kind your grandson might like.

The Best Seat in the House
Now, where to sit in them movie theaters, that’s important. You don’t wanna be too close, hurts your eyes. Too far, you can’t see nothin’. They say the best spot is right in the middle, kinda towards the back. They call it two-thirds back. That way, you get the good sound, you see the whole picture, don’t have to turn your head like an owl.
The middle row, that’s where you wanna be. Not too high, not too low. Just right. Like Goldilocks and her porridge. Some folks like them front rows, I don’t know why. Maybe they like to feel like they’re in the movie. Me, I like to see the whole thing.

Gettin’ them tickets, that’s a whole other thing. You can get ’em online now, they say. Use that internet thing. I don’t know how to use that contraption. I just go to the window, give ’em my money, they give me a ticket. Simple as that. But the young folks, they like to do it on their phones.
They got them showtimes, tell you when the movie’s playin’. Gotta check that, don’t wanna show up and the movie ain’t even playin’. They got different times, different days. Gotta pay attention.

That Upper West Side, they filmed a lot of movies there, you know. That one with the kid, Home Alone 2, remember that one? He’s runnin’ around New York City, causin’ all kinds of trouble. And that other one, Ghostbusters. All them ghosts runnin’ around. They filmed some of that up there too.
I heard they had one called How I Met Your Mother there, they set that show there, some of it anyhow. And another one called Eyes Wide Shut, I don’t know what that one is about. Heard it is kinda strange. One called Panic Room, that’s one with the lady hiding in the room from the bad guys, that’s a good one.
How Movie Theaters Work
Them movie theater owners, they gotta pay to show them movies, you know. It ain’t free. They gotta ask the movie people, “Hey, can I show your movie?” And them movie people, they gotta say yes. Then the theater owner, he’s gotta pay ’em some money. And pay the folks workin’ there, sellin’ the popcorn and the tickets.
It’s a whole business, you know. Ain’t as simple as just puttin’ a movie on. Gotta pay for it all. They gotta make money somehow. That’s why them sodas cost so much. But them big screens and that loud sound, it’s somethin’ else. Nothin’ like watchin’ a movie at home on your little TV.
