Now, they got all them fancy new movies comin’ out all the time. Hard to keep up with ’em, I swear. I heard there’s a new one with that fast car in it. Lord knows I like that. My son likes those ones with all that action, you know. Big explosions and whatnot. I’d be there right now watching movies if I could. That’s how much I like those fast cars.
There is another one about some folks singin’ and dancin’. Not sure about that one. But that’s okay, there is something for everybody. That’s what I always say. You gotta have choices. It is important to have choices in movies in New Iberia, too.

We got a few places to watch movies in New Iberia. There’s the one downtown, been there forever. Used to go there when I was a little girl. It’s old, but it’s got charm, you know? Seats ain’t as comfy as they used to be, though. They have changed them many times over the years.

Then there’s that newer one out by the Walmart. It’s all big and shiny. Got them reclining seats. Those are nice, I gotta admit. You can practically take a nap in those things. Almost did once, but my son woke me up. I was mad, I missed the whole movie! So I had to go back the next week and watch it again. It was good, though.
And there’s that little one, what’s it called… Can’t remember the name. But it’s cozy. They show them older movies sometimes. I like that. Reminds me of the good old days. They had good movies back then, too. You wouldn’t believe it. Nowadays, they are all about those big special effects. Which are nice, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes you just want a good story, you know?

Now, if you wanna know when the movies in New Iberia are playin’, you gotta check the paper. Or that internet thing. My son helps me with that. He’s good with computers. I don’t understand half of it, but he shows me the times and I pick what I wanna see. It is not so hard, that is.
They got different showtimes for different movies. Some play in the afternoon, some at night. It all depends. You gotta plan it out, especially if you’re goin’ with someone. Can’t just show up whenever you want. Well, I guess you could, but then you might miss the start of the movie. And that’s no good. You gotta see the whole thing, from beginning to end. Movies are a good way to relax. Forget about your troubles for a little while. Get lost in another world. That’s what I like about ’em. You can be anyone, anywhere, doin’ anything. It’s like magic, almost. You can be a princess, a superhero, a cowboy, whatever you want.
Plus, it’s a good way to spend time with your family. My son and I go to the movies sometimes. It’s nice. We get popcorn and candy. And we talk about the movie afterward. It’s a good way to bond, you know? That is very important for a family. The family that watches movies together stays together. That is what I always say. Even when my son was little and I had to take him and he’d be kicking the seats, even then it was nice.
And it’s cheap entertainment. Well, cheaper than some other things. You can go to the matinee and save some money. That’s what I do. Then you can use that extra money to buy more candy. Movies Filmed in New Iberia
You know, they filmed some movies in New Iberia, too. Right here in our little town. I remember when they filmed that one with the detective. They were all over the place. It was exciting. We saw some famous people walking around. I think one of them even waved at me. Or maybe he was waving at someone behind me. I don’t know. But it was still exciting.
They filmed another one a few years back. Something about a swamp. I can’t remember the name. But it was a big deal. They had all these trucks and cameras and lights. It was like Hollywood came to New Iberia. I went down there to watch them film a scene. It was interesting. They had to do it over and over again. Took forever. But it was fun to watch. Then when the movie came out, I went to see it. It was neat to see our town on the big screen. I pointed out all the places I recognized. My son was embarrassed, but I didn’t care. It was fun.
