So, I saw this new movie on Netflix, Damsel, and I gotta say, some of the scenery was just stunning. I mean, who wouldn’t want to wander around those grand halls and creepy caves? It got me thinking, “Where did they actually film this thing?”
First, I did some digging online. Seems like a big chunk of it was shot in a studio, Troubadour Meridian Water Studios in London, to be exact. They built all those amazing sets there, like the castle interiors and probably some of the dragon’s lair. Gotta give props to the set designers, they really nailed the vibe of the movie.
But there were also a few scenes, especially the outdoor ones, that looked way too real to be just a set. I read somewhere that they did some filming in Portugal. I even stumbled upon some comments online saying that Batalha was one of the locations. The buildings there really looked like that old gothic buildings in the movie, and the architecture is super impressive. So I guess a lot of those landscape shots were from there.
Exploring Portugal
To get a better sense of the place, I started looking at pictures of Batalha, and wow, it’s gorgeous!
- I looked up pictures of Batalha, and it totally confirmed my suspicions. This place is like something straight out of a fairy tale.
- I found some photos of this monastery, Mosteiro da Batalha, and it’s mind-blowing. It’s all intricate carvings and towering arches, just like in the movie!
- I checked out a few travel blogs and vlogs about Batalha. People who’ve been there say it’s even more impressive in person.
- I even watched some drone footage of the area, and the landscapes are breathtaking. Rolling hills, vineyards, and charming little villages – it all looks so peaceful and idyllic.
Then, I started imagining what it would be like to actually visit these places. I pictured myself walking through the streets of Batalha, feeling like I was stepping back in time. I could almost hear the echoes of the past in those ancient buildings. Also, I daydreamed about exploring the countryside, maybe hiking through the hills or visiting a local vineyard. It would be an amazing experience to see where they filmed some of the most iconic scenes from Damsel, to see the real-life inspirations behind the movie’s magical world.
In the end, I realized that even though a lot of Damsel was filmed in a studio, the real-world locations they used in Portugal played a huge role in bringing the movie’s atmosphere to life. It’s amazing how a place can inspire a story and add so much depth to it. I’m definitely adding Batalha to my travel bucket list now, and maybe one day I’ll get to experience the magic of Damsel’s filming locations for myself!
