Hey everyone, I’m back with another one of my little adventures. This time, it’s about the Inwood Film Festival. So, I heard about this film festival happening right here in my neighborhood, well, technically Inwood and the surrounding areas like Washington Heights and a couple of other places.
First thing I did was check out what this festival was all about. Turns out, it’s a yearly thing, and this year was their sixth one. They were showing a bunch of films, like, 27 of them! And get this, 17 were world premieres. That’s a lot of new stuff!
The festival ran from May 23rd to May 26th, and it was held at the Campbell Sports Center. I marked my calendar because I didn’t want to miss out. The place was buzzing with people, all excited to see these films.
I got there and grabbed a program. The variety was pretty cool. There were all kinds of films, all either made in Inwood or by people from around here. It felt really special, you know, seeing the work of folks from your own community.
- Films, Films, and More Films: I managed to catch a few of the screenings. It was awesome seeing such a range of stories and styles. Some were funny, some were serious, and some were just plain weird in the best way.
- Meeting the Filmmakers: One of the coolest parts was that some of the filmmakers were there. I got to chat with a couple of them after their screenings. It was so interesting to hear about their process and what inspired them.
- The Vibe: The whole atmosphere was just great. Everyone was so into it, talking about the films, sharing their thoughts. It felt like a real community event.
I also found out that film festivals are a big deal. They give awards, they screen films, and they’re a place for people in the film industry to connect. This Inwood one might not be as big as Cannes or Sundance, but it’s super important for local filmmakers.
What I Learned
Honestly, I went in not knowing much about film festivals, but I came out with a whole new appreciation. It’s not just about watching movies; it’s about supporting local artists, seeing fresh perspectives, and being part of something bigger. Plus, it’s just a fun time! I mean, who doesn’t love a good movie?
