So, I had this wild idea to dive into the acting world, specifically looking for movie auditions in New Orleans. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be in a movie, right? I started this whole journey with zero experience and a whole lot of hope.

First off, I hit up the internet. I typed in something like “movie auditions New Orleans” into the search bar and, bam, a ton of stuff popped up. I came across a few websites, but the ones that really caught my eye were Backstage, Project Casting, and this other one called NYCastings. They seemed to have a pretty good list of what’s casting in New Orleans.

  • Backstage: This site was like a goldmine. I found nearly 10,000 casting calls. I spent hours just scrolling and reading through them.
  • Project Casting: Fewer listings than Backstage, but still had some interesting projects.
  • NYCastings: Despite the name, they had a decent section for New Orleans. Mostly for film, TV, and modeling.

I also stumbled upon allcasting. They were shouting about needing talented people for theatre auditions. I thought, why not give it a shot? Theatre could be a good way to get my feet wet.

Then there were these other sites, Casting Networks and Actors Access, which a friend told me about. They seemed more professional, maybe a bit over my head at the time, but I bookmarked them anyway. You never know.

Oh, and I found out that Netflix posts casting calls on their website. I mean, imagine getting a role in a Netflix show! I quickly found their casting page and started browsing. There were a lot of requirements, like sending in headshots and audition tapes, but hey, I was willing to learn.

The whole process was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. There’s a lot more to it than just showing up and reading lines. You gotta have your headshots, your resume (which was basically blank for me, acting-wise), and be ready to put yourself out there. I learned that having an agent is a big deal, but I figured I’d cross that bridge when I got there.

So, I started applying. I picked a few auditions that seemed like a good fit for a newbie like me. Sent in my applications, a simple headshot I took against a white wall, and waited. It was nerve-wracking, but exciting at the same time. Most of my applications were just a shot in the dark, and I knew the chances were slim, but I kept at it. Every application felt like a small victory, a step closer to, well, somewhere.

A little bit of hope

After a few weeks of radio silence, I got an email! An actual response! It was for a small role in an independent film. Nothing glamorous, but it was something. I prepped like crazy, read the script a million times, and even practiced in front of the mirror.

Long story short, I didn’t get the part. But, the feedback I received was super helpful. They said I had potential but needed more training. It was a bummer, but it lit a fire under me. I realized that this acting thing isn’t just a walk in the park. It’s tough, competitive, and you gotta really want it.

So, that’s where I’m at now. Still dreaming, still applying, and now, also looking into acting classes. Who knows where this road will lead, but I’m buckled up and ready for the ride. It’s a wild world out there in the movie biz, but hey, someone’s gotta make it, right? Why not me?
