Okay, so today I wanted to talk about something that’s been on my mind lately: family films from 2016. I’ve been doing a deep dive into this, and I thought I’d share my process and what I’ve found.
First off, I started by just trying to remember what family movies came out in 2016 that I watched. I remember watching a movie about a little girl and a giant, and a movie called “Finding Dory”. But, honestly, my memory’s a bit fuzzy, so I figured it was time to hit the internet.
I started with some broad searches, just typing in things like “2016 family films” into Google. I was looking for kid movies and movies for teens, I got a bunch of lists, which was a good start. I noticed that a lot of these lists were from late 2015 or early-to-mid 2016, so they were probably made before all the movies for the year were even released. That’s something to keep in mind.
Then, I started digging into individual movies. I wanted to find out more about them, see what people were saying. I used the names of the movies in my searches, you know, to refine things. I tried to find a definition of critically acclaimed movies, “A movie is critically acclaimed when a large majority of critics offer a large amount of reviews that are deemed very positive.”
I found a lot of reviews and articles talking about the success of family films in 2016, financially speaking. It seems like they did pretty well at the box office! For example, I found “The BFG”, where an orphan girl meets a giant, and “Finding Dory”, which is about a fish looking for her parents.
I also wanted to see what critics were saying. I figured that reviews from people who watch a lot of movies could be helpful. I found out that movies with a lot of positive reviews are called “critically acclaimed.” Cool, huh?

So, I made my own little list of movies that seemed interesting, based on what I found. I tried to include a mix of different types, like animated movies, live-action movies, and so on. I added movies with CGI and real actors.
My 2016 Family Films List:
- The BFG
- Finding Dory
This is just a start, of course. There are probably tons of other great family films from 2016 that I haven’t even discovered yet. And of course, whether a movie is “good” or not is subjective. What I like might not be what you like, and that’s totally fine!
But yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to lately. It’s been a fun little project, and it’s given me some ideas for movies to watch with my family. If you have any recommendations for 2016 family films, let me know! I’m always looking for something new to watch.
And hey, maybe I’ll do this for other years too. It’s kind of interesting to look back and see what was popular in the past, you know?
Anyway, I hope you found this interesting. I just wanted to share my little adventure in the world of 2016 family films. It’s not exactly rocket science, but it’s something I enjoyed doing, and I thought it might be fun to share.
