Today, I wanted to dive into something that’s been on my mind lately – Chicago horror movies. I’ve always been a big fan of horror, and there’s something special about movies set in places you know. So, I decided to compile a list of horror flicks based in the Windy City.

First, I started by brainstorming. I jotted down all the Chicago-based horror movies I could think of off the top of my head. This gave me a decent starting list, but I knew there were probably more out there that I was forgetting.

Next, I hit the internet. I started with a simple Google search: “horror movies set in Chicago.” This turned up a bunch of articles and lists. I scrolled through them, making notes of any titles that sounded interesting or that I hadn’t heard of before.

Then I dove into some of my go-to movie sites. I checked out their horror sections and used their search functions to look for Chicago-specific keywords. I even browsed through some forums and online communities dedicated to horror fans to see what recommendations people had.

After that, I started organizing my findings. I created a spreadsheet and began entering the titles, along with some basic info like the year they were released and a brief synopsis. It was a bit tedious, but it really helped me keep track of everything.

Once I had a pretty comprehensive list, I decided to watch a few of the movies I hadn’t seen yet. I grabbed some popcorn, dimmed the lights, and settled in for a mini Chicago horror movie marathon.

Finally, I put together a blog post summarizing my findings. I included brief reviews of the movies I watched, as well as my overall thoughts on the subgenre of Chicago horror.

My Chicago Horror Movie List

  • Candyman (1992) – A classic!
  • Child’s Play (1988) – Chucky’s original rampage.
  • Stir of Echoes (1999) – A great and creepy Kevin Bacon movie.
  • Poltergeist III (1988) – One of the few of the franchise I like.
  • The Relic (1997) – Set in Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History.

It was a fun little project, and it definitely gave me a new appreciation for the horror that Chicago has to offer. It also reminded me how much I enjoy researching and compiling information like this. Might have to do another one of these soon!
