Okay, here’s my blog post about making those horror movie cupcake toppers:
So, I got this idea to make some creepy cupcake toppers for Halloween. I saw some online, but they were kinda pricey, and I figured I could just make my own, right? I’m no pro, but I like to get crafty, and these seemed pretty doable.
First, I needed to figure out what designs I wanted. I went through a bunch of classic horror movies, like, you know, the usual suspects. I found some images online that I liked, mostly just the characters’ faces or iconic items. Nothing too complicated, ’cause I’m not exactly an artist.
Once I had my designs, I printed them out. Just regular paper, nothing fancy. Then I got some thicker cardstock paper from the craft store. I cut out the printed images and glued them onto the cardstock. This was just to make them sturdier, you know? So they wouldn’t be all floppy on the cupcakes.
Next, I needed to attach them to toothpicks. I used some tape, just regular clear tape, and taped the back of each cutout to a toothpick. I tried using glue at first, but it was kinda messy, and the tape worked just fine. You could also use those little glue dots, those would probably work great, but I didn’t have any on hand.
And that was pretty much it! I just stuck them into some cupcakes I baked, and they looked awesome! The cupcakes themselves were just a regular chocolate recipe, nothing special. But the toppers really made them stand out. I even made some with red frosting to look like blood splatter. Kinda gross, but hey, it’s Halloween, right?
I also tried making some cupcake wrappers. I found some black and orange paper, cut them into strips, and taped them around the cupcake liners. It was a bit more work, but I think it added a nice touch. And if you wanted to get really fancy you could use red gel icing to write some horror movie quotes.
Here’s a quick rundown of what I used:
- Printed images of horror movie characters
- Cardstock paper
- Toothpicks
- Tape or glue dots
- Cupcakes and frosting
Honestly, the whole thing was easier than I thought it would be. And it was way cheaper than buying them. Plus, it was kinda fun to do. If you’re looking for a fun and easy Halloween project, I definitely recommend giving these a try. The kids loved them, and even the adults thought they were pretty cool. You can make a bunch of these and take them to your Halloween party to surprise your friends, I bet they will love it!
And that’s it! Super easy, super fun, super cheap! Give it a try, and let me know how it went!
