Alright, so the other day I was thinking, “What’s a fun movie marathon idea?” And then it hit me – horror movie dads! I mean, we always talk about the moms, right? But the dads? They’re a whole different breed of messed up in these films. So, I decided to dive deep and make a list.
First, I grabbed a pen and a notebook – old school, I know. Then I started brainstorming. What horror movies did I know off the top of my head that had some seriously questionable fathers?
Immediately, “Night of the Hunter” popped into my head. That movie is a classic for a reason! I mean, that preacher? Yikes. So I jotted that one down. Then I thought about older movies and I remembered Frankenstein with Victor Frankenstein and his unchecked ego. Added that to my list.
My List
- Night of the Hunter (1955) – Okay, so this dude isn’t technically a “dad” in the movie, but he’s got that whole creepy stepdad vibe going on, and he’s definitely the father figure, and man, is he terrifying.
- Victor in Frankenstein (1931) – This guy was so full of himself. All he wanted was glory. He’s the OG bad horror dad.
- Pamela Voorhees in Friday the 13th (1980) – Pamela’s a mom, but I figure she’s somebody’s dad’s wife, right? And she’s all about revenge for her son, Jason, so I guess this one is for all those bad dads who cause their kids to need avenging.
I know I might get some flak for including a mom. But hey, it’s my list, and she definitely causes trouble for the kids in this movie, so she has to be included. I really love movies and I watched a lot of movies recently. I found that those heroic fathers always can demonstrate all the qualities. It’s so cool, right?
After I finished making my list, I decided to make some popcorn and get started on my marathon. I spent a lot of time on it. And I had a blast! You should try it sometime!
