Okay, so I was watching “50/50” the other day, you know, that movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen? It’s about this guy who gets cancer, and it’s surprisingly funny but also really touching. Anyway, it got me thinking, “What other movies out there are like this? You know, ones that deal with serious stuff but also have some humor and heart?”
So, I decided to do some digging. First thing I did was hit up Google. I just typed in “movies similar to 50/50” and, boom, a ton of stuff popped up. Lots of lists, articles, you name it. I started clicking around, just kind of browsing through the different suggestions.
After a while, I had a bunch of tabs open. I started making a list of the movies that seemed the most interesting. I was mostly looking for movies that had that same kind of vibe as “50/50” – you know, dealing with heavy topics like illness, but with a good dose of comedy and maybe some romance thrown in. Kind of like a dramedy, I guess.
Here’s what I found:
- “The Fault in Our Stars” – This one kept coming up, and I’ve actually seen it before. It’s about two teenagers with cancer who fall in love. Definitely sad, but also really sweet and life-affirming.
- “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” – This one sounds interesting. It’s about a high school kid who befriends a classmate with leukemia. Seems like it has that same kind of quirky humor as “50/50.”
- “500 Days of Summer” – Okay, this one isn’t about illness, but it’s also a dramedy with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, so I figured it might have a similar feel. It’s about a guy looking back on his relationship with a girl.
- “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” – This one is more of a coming-of-age story, but it deals with some heavy stuff like mental health issues. I’ve heard good things about it.
- “Silver Linings Playbook” – This one is about two people with mental health issues who find comfort in each other. It’s got Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, so that’s a plus.
After I had my list, I started watching some trailers. I wanted to get a better feel for the movies and see if they were actually what I was looking for. I watched a few trailers of every movie to decide which one to see first.
And I have also started reading some reviews. Just to see what other people thought of the movies. Not just the critics, but also regular folks like me. It is still not finished, but I plan to do it when I have some free time.
So, that’s where I’m at now. I’ve got a list of movies that I think might be similar to “50/50,” and now I just need to start watching them! I’ll probably start with “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” since it sounds the most similar, and then go from there. I’ll keep you guys posted on what I think! It was a fun little project, and I’m excited to see some new movies.
