Since the late 1980s, author and illustrator Dav Pilkey has been writing award-winning children’s literature, with perhaps his most well-known work being the Captain Underpants series. Consisting of twelve main books and numerous spin-offs, the Captain Underpants series revolves around fourth graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, who love drawing comics to share with their classmates. One of these comics is none other than Dog Man, and now, it’s getting a movie thanks to DreamWorks Animation!
Dog Man tells the story of Officer Knight and his dog Greg, who are gravely injured together on duty. Fortunately, a life-saving surgery is available, though the results are quite unconventional. Greg’s head is sewn onto Knight’s body, and together, they become a new hero known as Dog Man. Despite such a dramatic transformation, they continue to honorably serve their city as a police officer, leading them to cross paths with Petey, the “world’s most evilest cat”.

Petey is a criminal mastermind cat, who is constantly scheming up new ways to start chaos in the city. He was also responsible for Knight and Greg’s horrible accident. Petey is known for his hot-headed behavior and getting annoyed by the smallest of issues. However, he also has the gift of the gab, using the art of persuasion on those who can unknowingly assist his evil plans.
Pete Davidson rose to fame during his eight-season stint on Saturday Night Live. Since his departure from the series, he has starred in films such as The King of Staten Island and Dumb Money, as well as his semi-autobiographical TV show Bupkis.
Lil Rel Howery
Chief
Chief is a human police officer who runs the station where Dog Man works. Though he can blow his top when something doesn’t go his way, the Chief is usually quite friendly towards his fellow officers.
Lil Rel Howery is perhaps best known for his role as Robert Carmicheal in The Carmichael Show. He has also appeared in films such as Get Out, Vacation Friends, and Free Guy.
Isla Fisher

Sarah Hatoff is an Australian news reporter, who is friends with both Dog Man and Chief. She is very brave and always prepared to help her friends save the city from Petey’s chaotic plans.
Isla Fisher has starred in comedies such as Wedding Crashers and Hot Rod, as well as dramas like The Great Gatsby, and action-fare such as Now You See Me. She also currently has a lead role in the Peacock series Wolf Like Me.

Billy Boyd is perhaps best known for his role as Peregrin “Pippin” Took in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy. He has also appeared in TV shows such as Outlander, Doom Patrol, and Chucky.

Flippy is a telekinetic fish and one of the city’s biggest criminals. Flippy was once the Chief’s pet before two other police officers accidentally gave him a can of ‘Supa Brain Dots’ to drink from. This made Flippy’s brain grow eleven times larger and sparked his telekinetic abilities.
Ricky Gervais is perhaps best known for co-creating and starring in the UK version of The Office as David Brent. In addition to his many stand-up specials, he has also appeared in TV shows such as Extras, An Idiot Abroad, and After Life.

Despite what his nickname implies, Grampa is actually Petey’s criminal father. Grampa has never been close to Petey, not even as a child, always selfishly favoring his own evil plans over raising his son. These choices led Grampa to ultimately abandon his family, creating a life-long rift between him and Petey.
For over three decades, Stephen Root has appeared in countless highly acclaimed films and TV shows. Some of his film credits include Office Space, Dodgeball, and Get Out. On TV, he has starred in series such as NewsRadio, King of the Hill, and Barry.
Poppy Liu
Butler
Believe it or not, Butler is Petey’s human butler! She plays a pivotal role in helping Petey stage the accident that changed Knight and Greg’s lives forever.
Poppy Liu has had recurring roles in many popular TV shows, such as Better Call Saul, iCarly, and Hacks. Most recently, she appeared in No Good Deed and the second season of The Afterparty.
Lucas Hopkins Calderon
Lil’ Petey
Lil’ Petey is Petey’s kind-hearted and child-aged clone. He first came into being when Petey needed to find a new butler, and in attempting to clone himself, Lil’ Petey was the unexpected result. Annoyed by his caring nature, Petey abandoned Lil’ Petey on the street, allowing the latter to be adopted by Dog Man. Lil’ Petey now serves as Dog Man’s trusty sidekick.
Lucas Hopkins is a child actor who is set to make his film debut by voicing Lil’ Petey.
