Alright, so I got this idea stuck in my head the other day to mess around with sublimation, but specifically with a horror movie theme. I’m a big fan of those cheesy, old-school horror flicks, and I thought, “Why not wear my love for them?” Literally.

First thing I did was to hit up my computer and started browsing for some iconic horror images. I mean, you gotta have the classics, right? I ended up picking out a few: a creepy-looking skull, that eerie silhouette of a haunted house, and, of course, a bloody handprint, because why not?

Digging Up the Goods

Next, I needed to get all the supplies together. I already had a sublimation printer from a previous project, but I was out of sublimation paper. So, I ordered a pack online. While I was at it, I grabbed some plain white polyester T-shirts. I’ve heard that polyester is the best for getting those vibrant colors, so I made sure to get those.

Once everything arrived, I got to work printing out the images. Man, seeing those creepy designs come to life on the sublimation paper was kind of thrilling. I won’t lie, I was getting pretty excited to see how they’d turn out on the shirts.

Pressing Matters

The next step was the tricky part: the heat press. I dusted off my old heat press, which I hadn’t used in a while. I set the temperature, laid the shirt flat, put the printed paper on top, and then carefully placed the whole thing into the press.

It was a bit of a learning curve, figuring out the right pressure and time. My first attempt was a bit of a mess. The skull came out a little faded. I think I didn’t press it long enough, or maybe the temperature wasn’t hot enough.

  • Attempt 1: Faded skull.
  • Lesson learned: More heat, more time.

But I didn’t give up! I tried again with the haunted house silhouette, this time increasing the temperature and pressing for a bit longer. And boom! It worked! The image transferred beautifully. The black was super dark, and the details were crisp. It looked like something you’d buy in a store, but way cooler because I made it myself.

Bloody Success

Feeling more confident, I moved on to the bloody handprint. I followed the same settings as the haunted house, and it turned out perfect. The red was so vivid, it looked almost real. A little disturbing, to be honest, but that’s the point, right?

In the end, I managed to sublimate all three designs onto different shirts. It took some trial and error, but it was totally worth it. I now have a set of custom-made horror movie T-shirts that are unique and totally me.

This whole project was a blast. I got to combine my love for horror movies with my crafting hobby. Plus, I learned a lot about the sublimation process. It’s not just about slapping an image onto a shirt; you gotta get the settings right. But once you do, the results are amazing.

I’m already thinking about what other designs I can do. Maybe some classic movie monsters next? The possibilities are endless. It’s definitely a fun and rewarding way to express your interests and create something truly unique.
