So, I’ve been meaning to watch some snowboarding movies lately, and I figured Netflix would have a good selection, right? Boy, was I in for a surprise. I started by firing up my laptop, you know, the usual drill. Opened up Netflix, and typed in “snowboarding” in the search bar. A few titles popped up, but honestly, not as many as I expected.

I clicked on the first one that looked halfway decent, “The Art of Flight.” Started playing, and the video quality was pretty good. Nice, clear shots of these guys doing crazy tricks on the slopes. But after about 20 minutes, I started to get a little bored. It was all just, like, snowboarding, snowboarding, snowboarding, with no real story or anything.

So, I backed out of that one and tried another one called “Let It Ride.” This one was a bit older, but it had some interviews and stuff mixed in with the snowboarding footage. It wasn’t bad, but it still didn’t really grab me.

I spent the next hour or so just browsing through the different snowboarding films they had. Some were documentaries about specific snowboarders, others were more like highlight reels. I even tried watching a couple in different languages, just to see if they were any better.

My Watchlist

  • Tried watching “The Art of Flight” – got bored.
  • Checked out “Let It Ride” – okay, but not great.
  • Watched a part of the documentary “McConkey” – interesting, but not snowboarding-focused.
  • Tried a random snowboarding movie in German – it was like watching snowboarding to a different soundtrack.
  • Ended up finding a snowboard film called “First Descent” – that was pretty good.

Honestly, by the end of it all, I was kind of disappointed. I mean, Netflix has tons of stuff, but their snowboarding selection is pretty weak. I guess I was expecting more full-length movies with actual plots, not just a bunch of random clips strung together.

Anyway, I did end up finding one that I actually liked. It was called “First Descent.” It was about a group of snowboarders who went to Alaska to ride some crazy lines. That one kept me entertained for the whole time. But yeah, overall, Netflix’s snowboarding game is not very strong. Might have to look elsewhere if I want to find some good snowboarding flicks.
