Okay, so the other day I was feeling kinda blah and needed a movie to lift me up. You know, something inspiring and wanderlust-y. Naturally, “Eat Pray Love” popped into my head, but I’ve seen it a million times. So, I decided to find some other movies that give off the same vibe.
First, I fired up my trusty laptop. My usual routine involves just randomly searching on Google, so that’s exactly what I did. I typed in something super basic like “movies similar to eat pray love”. I know, not very creative, but hey, it usually works!
The results? A whole bunch of articles and lists popped up. I spent a good hour just clicking through different websites. Some were helpful, some were, well, not so much. I found a few that seemed promising:
- “Under the Tuscan Sun” – Okay, this one kept coming up, and it sounded pretty similar with the whole “woman starting over in a beautiful place” thing.
- “Wild” – This one with Reese Witherspoon seemed a bit more intense, about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, but still had that self-discovery journey aspect.
- “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” – I’d heard of this one before, and the premise of a guy breaking out of his boring routine sounded perfect.
- “A Map for Saturday.”It is a documentary that follows a guy quiting a big job to travel the world.
I jotted down the titles on a sticky note – yes, I’m still old-school like that sometimes. Then, I checked to see where I could watch them. Most were available on the usual streaming services I use, so that was easy.
The Movie Marathon Begins!
I decided to start with “Under the Tuscan Sun.” I made some popcorn, grabbed a cozy blanket, and settled in. It was pretty much exactly what I was looking for! Beautiful scenery, a bit of romance, and a heartwarming story.
Next, I watched “Wild.” This one was definitely more emotional and raw, but still incredibly inspiring. Reese Witherspoon was amazing! It made me want to go on a really, really long walk (maybe not the entire Pacific Crest Trail, though!).

Then, I watched “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” It’s a different movie about how a man broke out his routine life.
Finally,I watched“A Map for Saturday.” I thought I was on a big adventure taking off three months, but I was so wrong. It’s a great documentary!
So, that’s how I spent my weekend – immersing myself in movies about travel, self-discovery, and new beginnings. It was exactly the escape I needed! I’m now feeling much more motivated and ready to tackle, well, maybe not moving to Italy, but at least my to-do list!
