All eyes and ears are on the Brit Awards 2025, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, and many others in London this Saturday evening, as their 45th edition, presented by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), at the O2 Arena is honoring the best in British and international music. Hosting the ceremony is Jack Whitehall, who met Squid Game Soldiers, aka Triangles, in a video intro and joked about being a Taylor Swift fan.
The ceremony opened musically, with Sabrina Carpeter taking the stage. Lenny Kravitz unveiled the first honor of the night, the song of the year award, which went to Charli XCX featuring Billie Eilish, “Guess.”
Charli XCX entered the evening leading the nominations with five, including for British album of the year, song of the year and British artist of the year. Dua Lipa, The Last Dinner Party and Ezra Collective received four nominations each.
Lenny Kravitz handed the first honor of the night to Charli XCX for her hit “Guess,” featuring Billie Eilish. “I feel like dance music, electronic music gets a really bad rep because everyone is like ‘it’s not that deep’,” the star said in accepting the award. “And I kind of feel it is. This genre of music for me is euphoric. It allows me to escape and feel on such a deep level.”
Later on, London-based jazz group Ezra Collective won the Brit for best British group.
Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown introduced to the stage the previously unveiled Global Success Award winner, Sabrina Carpenter, after a video message from Diana Ross. “What I love most about her is that she’s always herself – bold, unapologetic, and outrageously talented,” Brown said.
Chappell Roan was honored with the best international song award. Roan wasn’t at the O2 Arena but accepted her honor via a video message. “I don’t believe in bad art, but let’s just say I had to write a lot of bad songs to get to the good ones,” she shared. “Artists deserve that freedom to write bad songs and to explore horrible concepts. … So we must continue to support these artists so they can find success on their own terms and have long careers.”
Meanwhile, Stormzy won his fourth Brit on Saturday, receiving the trophy in the best hip hop/grime/rap act category.
The Beatles were also among the nominees, in the running for song of the year with their “final song” “Now and Then.” It was their first nomination since 1983 where they were celebrated at the Brit Awards with the Outstanding Contribution to Music honor.
The Cure is also up for the band’s first Brit Award since 1993. The Cure received three nominations thanks to Songs of a Lost World, their first album in 16 years.
Among Saturday’s on-stage performers were also the likes of Teddy Swims, Jade, The Last Dinner Party, and Lola Young.
