Taylor Swift released the video for her new single “The Fate of Ophelia” on Sunday.
The music video for the lead single off her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, was released just two days after it premiered as part of the theatrical event Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.
Swift directed the video, which was filmed by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (Barbie, Killers of a Flower Moon, Brokeback Mountain), who previously worked with the singer on videos for “Fortnight,” “Cardigan” and others.
Wrote THR film critic Angie Han in her review: “[The video] twirls through a century’s worth of showgirl-ing, following Swift as she pivots from a model posing for a John Everett Millais-esque painting to a performer in a Busby Berkeley-style musical to a singer in a ’60s cabaret, and so on. The costumes are dazzling, the sets extravagant, the choreography (by Mandy Moore) sharp and the transitions seamless; it’s a feast for the eyes that I look forward to seeing yet again once it’s officially online Sunday, Oct. 7.”

The Life of a Showgirl, Swift’s 12th studio album, found the singer reuniting with Swedish hitmaker producers Max Martin and Shellback. The album, which was released at midnight Friday, features 12 tracks, including the blatantly sexual “Wood.”
The album sold 2.7 million copies in its first day of release and shattered multiple first-day streaming record.
The theatrical event pulled in $33 million at the box office over the weekend.
