Alright, so I went and saw this movie, “Love Lies Bleeding,” and let me tell ya, it was somethin’ else. Don’t rightly know if I liked it or not, to be honest. It was kinda like one of them casseroles where you throw in everything but the kitchen sink – a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and you ain’t quite sure how it all goes together.

The story, well, it’s about this gal Lou, works at a gym, you know, one of them places with all the weights and such. And then this other gal, Jackie, comes along. Big muscles, wants to be a bodybuilder, goin’ to Vegas. They fall for each other, I guess you could say. But their love, it ain’t the peaceful kind. It’s messy, real messy.

Now, Kristen Stewart, she plays Lou. I’ve seen her in other things, and she’s always alright. Here, she’s kinda quiet, keeps to herself mostly. And this Katy O’Brian, she’s Jackie. She’s got them muscles, alright. Big as all get out. You can tell she worked hard to get like that. They do a good job, I reckon, but the whole thing is just… well, it’s a lot.

The movie is set back in the 80s, in New Mexico. They got the cars and the clothes right, I guess. And there’s a lot of… what do you call it… violence? Yeah, that’s it. People gettin’ hurt, and it ain’t pretty. It’s like one of them old crime shows, but with more, you know… muscles and sweat.

  • It’s got that love story, which is kinda sweet, in a weird way.
  • But then it’s got all this fighting and shootin’.
  • And then there’s this whole thing about… well, I ain’t gonna spoil it, but let’s just say things get complicated.

Some folks are sayin’ it’s one of them “neo-noir” films. Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds fancy. To me, it just means it’s dark and kinda twisted. There’s a lot of stuff goin’ on, and sometimes it’s hard to keep track. It’s like they tried to put too many things into one movie, if you ask me.

They talk about confidence in the movie, too. Like, Jackie wants to be confident, but Lou already seems confident, even though she’s kinda quiet. It’s hard to explain. It’s like they’re both lookin’ for somethin’, but they ain’t quite sure what it is. And they end up finding it in each other, I guess, but it comes at a cost.

The music, it’s loud and kinda…electronic. It fits the movie, I reckon, but it ain’t my kind of music. It’s all thumpin’ and beepin’. Makes you feel kinda jittery, you know? And there’s a lot of sweat, and even some…well, let’s just say it ain’t for the faint of heart. It gets pretty graphic at times.

One fella, he wrote about the ending, said it was about Jackie’s growth. Maybe so. But to me, it just seemed like a whole lotta trouble. I mean, these gals, they go through a lot. And for what? Love, I guess. But it’s a rough kind of love, that’s for sure.

So, would I recommend this movie? I don’t know. It ain’t for everyone, that’s for sure. If you like them movies with a lot of action, and a lot of… drama, then maybe you’ll like it. But if you’re looking for something light and easy, well, this ain’t it. It’s a wild ride, that’s for sure. And it’ll leave you thinkin’, even if you ain’t quite sure what to think about.

It’s got its moments, though. There are parts that are really powerful, and you can feel the connection between Lou and Jackie. And then there are parts that are just… well, they’re somethin’ else. Like I said, it’s a mixed bag. But it’s definitely somethin’ you won’t forget anytime soon. It sticks with ya, like grits on a cold mornin’.
