Alright, so listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell ya ’bout this movie, this… documentary, they call it. It’s on that Netflix thingamajig, the one the grandkids are always glued to. This one’s all about them fellas that bang on the drums, you know, the drummers.
It’s called “Count Me In”. Catchy, huh? Like when you’re playin’ cards and gotta make sure everyone’s there. Well, this movie’s makin’ sure all them famous drummers get counted in, I reckon.
Now, I ain’t no fancy music person, but even I know some of these names. They got that wild fella, Tommy Lee, the one with all the tattoos and the crazy hair. And that Roger Taylor fella, the one from that band Queen, the one with that fella Freddie who could sing like an angel. He’s in there too.
And there’s a whole bunch more, like Stephen Perkins, Samantha Maloney, Taylor Hawkins – bless his heart, he ain’t with us no more – Nicko McBrain, Cindy Blackman, Emily Dolan Davies, that old timer Ginger Baker, Stewart Copeland, and Chad Smith. Lots of ’em. All them fellas that make the noise in the back, the ones that make ya wanna tap your feet and shake your behind.
- Tommy Lee – that crazy one
- Roger Taylor – the Queen fella
- Taylor Hawkins – the one we lost
- And a whole bunch of others, too many to remember, honest.
This “Count Me In” thing, it ain’t just about bangin’ on drums, though. It’s about the… whatchamacallit… the art of it. Yeah, they say it’s an art. Like paintin’ or somethin’. Who knew beatin’ on skins could be so fancy?
They talk about how it feels to play, how it connects them to the music and to each other. It’s like they’re talkin’ a different language, a language of thumpin’ and crashin’. It’s kinda like when you’re bakin’ a pie and everything just comes together just right, only louder. Way louder.
The movie shows them playin’, of course. Lots of drum solos, which is when they just go wild and do their own thing. Some of it’s fast, some of it’s slow, some of it’s loud, some of it’s… well, it’s all pretty loud, to be honest. But it’s good loud, ya know? The kind of loud that makes you feel alive.
And they tell stories, too. Stories about how they started playin’, about the bands they’ve been in, about the ups and downs of bein’ a drummer. It ain’t all rock and roll and glamour, lemme tell ya. It’s hard work, luggin’ them drums around, practicin’ for hours, dealin’ with them lead singers and their egos… It’s a whole thing.
This “Count Me In” movie, it’s a celebration, they say. A celebration of drums, of music, and of them fellas that make the beat. It’s about how music can bring people together, how it can make you feel somethin’ deep down in your soul. It’s about the power of the rhythm, they say. And I gotta say, watchin’ them fellas play, I kinda get it.
It ain’t just for folks who know all about music, neither. Even an old gal like me, who mostly listens to the birds singin’ and the cows moo-in’, can appreciate it. It’s just good, plain fun. Makes you wanna grab a couple of pots and pans and start bangin’ away yourself. Though the neighbors might not appreciate that too much.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch on that Netflix thing, and you wanna see a bunch of talented fellas doin’ what they do best, give “Count Me In” a try. It might just surprise ya. It might even make ya wanna learn how to play the drums yourself. Though, at my age, I think I’ll stick to clappin’ along.
They call it an exhilarating celebration of rock drumming and I reckon that’s about right. It shows how them drummers come together and it’s about more than just the music, it’s about folks connectin’ with each other. They even got trailers and stuff if you wanna learn more before you watch the whole thing.
And that’s about all I gotta say about it. Go on now, watch the movie. And tell them fellas I sent ya.
