Alright, let’s yak about them surf movies on that Netflix thingy. You know, the ones with all them waves and people ridin’ ’em. I ain’t no fancy movie critic or nothin’, just tellin’ ya what I think, plain and simple.

First off, seen somethin’ called “100 Foot Wave”. Crazy stuff, that one. This fella, Garrett McNamara, he’s a bit nuts, tryna ride these giant waves, bigger’n anythin’ I ever seen. They say it’s a “decade-long odyssey,” sounds fancy, huh? Means he been doin’ it a long time, I guess. Scary stuff, but kinda cool too, seein’ someone so determined. He’s got his wife there too, Nicole, supportin’ him, bless her heart. And other fellas too, Andrew Cotton, Cj Macias, all chasin’ them big waves.

Then there’s this old movie, “Point Break”. Not a new one, mind you, came out way back in 1991. Got that Keanu Reeves in it, before he got all old and wrinkly. He plays a cop, but these surfers, they ain’t just surfers, see? They’re bank robbers too! Patrick Swayze’s in it too, good lookin’ fella, he was. It’s more action than just plain surfin’, you know, shootin’ and chasin’ and all that. But the surfin’ parts, they’re pretty good. Makes ya wanna go to the beach, even if you can’t swim worth a lick.

Now, there’s lots of these surf “documentaries,” they call ’em. Means they’re supposed to be real life, not made up stories. They show ya how surfers live, all over the world. Some are better than others, of course. Can’t remember all their names, too many fancy words for my old brain. But they show ya some pretty places, and some real tough waves. Makes you think about how different folks live, some chasin’ waves, some chasin’ other things.

  • One they call “Resurface,” that one’s about a soldier, been to war and seen some bad things. He’s feelin’ down, real down. But then he finds some other folks like him, and they start surfin’ together. Helps ’em feel better, they say. Ridin’ them waves, washes away the bad memories, maybe. Sounds like a good thing, if you ask me.
  • And another one, “North of the Sun,” two young fellas, they go off to some cold place, Norway I think it was. Build themselves a little shack out of nothin’ and surf in the cold water. Crazy kids! But they seem happy enough. Surfin’ ain’t just about warm beaches and sunshine, I guess.

There’s this Italian movie too, came on Netflix in 2021. Don’t remember the name, too hard to pronounce. But it has some folks with complicated names in it. They probably had a hard life too, like that soldier. Surfing seems to help folks with the hard stuff, makes them forget their problems for a little bit.

So, yeah, them surf movies, they’re alright. Some are excitin’, some are sad, some just make you think. If you ain’t got nothin’ better to do, might as well watch one. See them waves crashin’, them surfers ridin’. It’s somethin’ different, ain’t it? And sometimes, that’s all you need.

But I tell ya, watchin’ them big waves, makes me dizzy just lookin’ at ‘em. I’ll stick to watchin’ from my couch, thank ya very much. Leave the wave ridin’ to them young’uns and crazy folks.

And that’s about all I got to say about them surf movies. Hope it made some sense to ya. Now, where’s that remote control? Time to find somethin’ else to watch, maybe somethin’ with a little less water.
