Alright, so listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell ya ’bout this here… whatchamacallit… Newark LGBTQ Film Festival thingy. Sounds fancy, huh? Don’t know what all them letters mean exactly, but it’s got somethin’ to do with movies, and that’s good enough for me.
What’s this Newark LGBTQ Film Festival all about?
Well, from what I gather, it’s a big to-do where they show all sorts of films. Not just any films, mind you. These here films are supposed to be, uh… “diverse” and “inclusive.” Now, I ain’t no fancy city slicker, but I reckon that means they got movies for everyone, no matter who you are or who you love. That’s what they tell me, anyways. They got all sorts of movies, and panels, and… what’s them things called… workshops? Yeah, them too. Learnin’ stuff while watchin’ movies? Sounds alright, I guess.
This ain’t the first time they done this, no sirree. This is the, uh… let me see if I got this right… the 5th Annual Five4Five Film Festival. Or maybe it’s just the regular Newark LGBTQ Film Festival. They had one in 2023 and now they’re doin’ it again in 2024. Seems like folks like it, ’cause they keep on doin’ it. They got this whole… “Newark LGBTQ Community Center” thingamajig that puts it all together. Good for them, I say. Keepin’ folks busy and entertained.
- They show movies, lots of ‘em.
- They got talks and learnin’ stuff.
- It happens every year, seems like.
- It’s in Newark, wherever that is.
When and where is this thing happening?
Now, this is important. You gotta know when and where to go if you wanna see these here movies. They had one back in April, from the 14th to the 16th, in 2023. And it sounds like they’re doin’ it again, same time maybe, in 2024. It’s in Newark, that’s all I know. You city folks probably know where that is. Me? I’m just a country gal. You gotta go look up the schedule and locations if you wanna know for sure. They probably got it online somewhere, on that internet thingy. Just search for “Newark LGBTQ Film Festival” and you’ll probably find it. They also sell tickets on somethin’ called Eventbrite.
Why should you care about this film festival?
Well, I reckon it’s important to have things like this. Gives folks somethin’ to do, somethin’ to see. And it sounds like they’re showin’ movies that you don’t normally see. Movies about different kinds of people, different kinds of lives. That’s a good thing, I think. Helps us understand each other better, even if we ain’t all the same. Plus, who doesn’t like a good movie now and then? Even an old lady like me enjoys a good story. And hey, maybe you’ll learn somethin’ new, meet some new folks. You never know. Life’s too short to be stuck in your ways, I always say. Go out there, see somethin’ different, meet some new people.
I heard tell there are other film festivals too, big ones. Like that one in San Francisco. Been goin’ on since 1977, can you believe it? That’s a long time. And they got one in Charlottesville too, at the University of Virginia. All them fancy places. But this one here in Newark, it’s special too. It’s for the community, for the people. And that’s what matters most. So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do, somethin’ different, go check out the Newark LGBTQ Film Festival. You might just surprise yourself.
So, go on, give it a try. You might just like it. And if you don’t, well, at least you tried something new. That’s what life’s all about, ain’t it? Tryin’ new things, meetin’ new people, and learnin’ a little somethin’ along the way. Now, I gotta go make some supper. Y’all have a good day now, ya hear?
