Alright, let’s talk about this “Farmland” movie, the one they’re showing on Netflix. I heard folks talking about it, so I figured, why not? Gotta see what all the fuss is about.

Now, this fella, James Moll, he made this movie. He’s one of them fancy-pants “Academy Award-Winning” directors, they say. Sounds important, I guess. He went and filmed a bunch of young farmers, six of ‘em, to show us what farming’s all about. Boys and girls, working the land, raising animals.

They say it’s a “documentary.” That’s like a real-life movie, not some made-up story. Shows you how it really is, or at least that’s what they claim. This movie, it ain’t shy about nothin’. They talk about all sorts of things, from them GMOs – you know, them genetically modified crops – to organic farming, the kind where you don’t use all them chemicals. Big farms, small farms, they show it all.

What’s this movie about, really?

Well, it’s about farming, plain and simple. But it ain’t just about planting seeds and watching ‘em grow. It’s about the people, these young farmers, and the risks they take. Farming ain’t easy, you know. You’re betting your whole life, your whole year’s work, on the weather, on the crops, on the animals. One bad storm, one sick cow, and you could lose everything. That’s what they call “high-risk, high-reward,” I reckon.

  • They show you the good times, the harvest, the healthy animals, the pride in a job well done.
  • But they also show you the hard times, the drought, the sick animals, the worry about money.
  • And they talk about the choices farmers gotta make, like whether to use GMOs or go organic, whether to grow big or stay small.

It ain’t just about tractors and fields, though there’s plenty of that. It’s about families, too. Lots of these young farmers, they’re carrying on a family tradition. Their daddies and granddaddies, they farmed the same land. It’s in their blood, you see.

Where can you watch this “Farmland” movie?

Now, I ain’t too good with all this newfangled technology, but I hear you can watch it on Netflix. That’s one of them places where you can watch movies on your TV, or your computer, or even your phone, I hear. Some folks also say it’s on somethin’ called “Prime Video,” but I don’t know nothin’ about that. Netflix is the one I hear about most.

I even heard some young’uns talking about another movie on Netflix, somethin’ called “The 2nd” with some actor named Ryan Phillippe. Said it was real popular, number one movie on there for a while. But that ain’t got nothin’ to do with farming, far as I know. And then they mentioned “Taken 2,” sayin’ it’s also on Netflix. That one sounds a bit scary, with folks gettin’ kidnapped and all. But “Farmland,” that’s the one we’re talkin’ about.

So, is this movie any good?

Well, I ain’t no movie critic, but I thought it was alright. It showed you what farming is really like, the good and the bad. It made me think about where my food comes from, and all the hard work that goes into it. It’s a good movie for city folks who don’t know nothin’ about farming, that’s for sure. Might open their eyes a bit.

Now, some folks might say, “Why should I care about farming? I just go to the store and buy my food.”

But you gotta remember, that food don’t just magically appear on the shelves. Somebody had to grow it, somebody had to raise it, somebody had to work their tail off to get it to you. And that’s what this movie shows you. It shows you the faces behind your food, the folks who work the land so you don’t have to.

Final thoughts?

If you’re curious about farming, or if you just want to see a good movie about real people, then give “Farmland” a watch. It ain’t fancy, it ain’t complicated, but it’s honest. And that’s more than you can say for a lot of things these days.

And next time you sit down to eat, take a minute to think about the farmers who made it possible. They deserve a little respect, I reckon.

That’s all I gotta say about that “Farmland” movie. Go watch it yourself and see what you think. Just don’t expect no fancy Hollywood stuff. It’s just about real people, doing real work, on real farms.
