Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here “movie poster,” the one they call “Citizen Kane.” I ain’t no fancy movie expert, mind you, but I know what I like, and I seen a thing or two in my time.
What’s this “Citizen Kane” all about, anyway?
From what I gather, it’s about some rich fella, Kane, who had a whole lot of stuff but maybe wasn’t so happy. They say he was a big shot newspaper man. Died all alone, I heard. Sounds like a sad story, if you ask me. They made a movie about him, and this here poster is supposed to tell you all about it.
- They say the movie was made a long, long time ago, back in 1941. That’s older than my grandma, bless her soul.
- It was a big deal movie, people still talk about it. They say it’s one of the best ever made. Who am I to argue?
So, what’s on this poster thing?
Well, it’s got the name, “Citizen Kane,” big and bold so you can see it. They usually put the faces of the actors on there too. Probably got that fella who played Kane, whoever he was. And they might put the director’s name, the fella who told everyone what to do. Important stuff, I guess, if you’re into that kind of thing.
They gotta tell ya when the movie’s comin’ out, or when it came out if it’s an old one like this “Citizen Kane.” And sometimes they put a little saying, a “tagline” they call it, to make you wanna go see it. Like, “The greatest story ever told!” or somethin’ like that. Gotta hook ya somehow, right?
Where do ya find these posters?
Well, they used to stick ’em up all over the place. Outside the movie theaters, of course, so you’d see ’em when you went to town. And in shops, too. Anywhere people would look. Nowadays, I reckon they put ’em on the internet too, whatever that is. My grandkids are always lookin’ at that thing.
Now, if you want an old poster, like this “Citizen Kane” one, that’s a different story. You might have to go to a special shop, one of them “collectibles” places. They got all sorts of old junk there, movie posters and such. Or maybe you can find one online, if you’re lucky and know how to do it. I ain’t got a clue, myself.
Can ya just get one for free?
Maybe, maybe not. If you work at the movie theater, maybe they’ll let you have one when the movie’s done playin’. But you gotta ask nice, you know? And if nobody else wants it, they might just give it to ya. Otherwise, you gotta buy it, and them old ones can cost a pretty penny, I hear.
This here “Citizen Kane” poster, it’s special, they say. They made special ones for the 50th anniversary of the movie. Imagine that, 50 years! And you can get all sorts of sizes, too. Big ones, little ones, whatever you want. They even got ones you can put up in your house, like a picture, they say. Fancy stuff, huh?
They roll ’em up in paper so they don’t get all bent out of shape, and then they put ’em in a triangle-shaped tube thingy. That way, they don’t get all messed up when they send ’em to ya. I guess that makes sense.

You can buy it or rent it, whatever you wanna do. I ain’t never seen it myself, but maybe I should someday. Just to see what all the fuss is about.
