Netflix has just added another arrow to its quiver of fantasy properties. The streamer has acquired the rights to adapt Callie Hart‘s fantasy romance BookTok hit Quicksilver. Deadline reports that the deal was for seven figures.
Quicksilver centers around Saeris Fane, a twenty-four-year old who uses her magical gifts for petty theft. However, after an encounter with thepersonification of death, she finds herself in the barren, icy realm of the fae. Not only does she find herself far away from everything she knows, but she’s also landed in the middle of a centuries-long war. However, she acquires a guide to this strange world when she inadvertently binds herself to the fae warrior Kingfisher. He’s got a mysterious past, a gruff attitude, and the book is billed as “romantasy” so you can probably see where this one is going. The book is the first part of a planned Fae and Alchemy Trilogy; the second book is expected to hit shelves next year. Netflix will adapt all three films of the proposed trilogy, but has not yet announced whether the adaptation will take the form of a TV series or a series of films.
What Other Fantasy Adaptations Has Netflix Produced?
Fantasy has been a lucrative genre for the streamer. It had great success adapting Andrzej Sapkowski‘s popular The Witcher novels; a fourth season, in which Liam Hemsworth will take the reins from original lead Henry Cavill, is in the works. Other notable adaptations include Shadow and Bone, from the novels of Leigh Bardugo; The Sandman, based on the DC Comics series written by Neil Gaiman and initially drawn by Sam Kieth; Locke and Key, adapted from the graphic novels by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez; and Cursed, based on the Arthurian graphic novel by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. It has also had success with Netflix-original fantasy films. Damsel, starring Millie Bobby Brown, was one of the most-watched films on the service this year. The streamer is also planning to adapt C.S. Lewis‘ beloved Chronicles of Narnia series, with Greta Gerwig attached to direct the first film in the series.
Quicksilver will be produced by Elizabeth Cantillon for The Cantillon Company; she previously produced Carrie Cracknell‘s 2022 adaptation of Jane Austen‘s Persuasion for Netflix. Author Hart will executive produce the project.
Netflix’s adaptation of Quicksilver is in development; no release date or creative team has yet been announced. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
