Alright, let’s talk about them movies in New Canaan, you know, the picture shows. I ain’t no fancy city slicker, but I do like watchin’ a good story now and then. Don’t get me wrong, I ain’t got time for all that highfalutin’ stuff, just give me somethin’ plain and simple, somethin’ I can understand.
So, where do you go to see these movies in New Canaan? Well, they got these movie theaters, big buildings with big screens, bigger than my old TV, that’s for sure. They call ’em “cinemas” sometimes, sounds all fancy, but it’s just a place to watch a movie, plain and simple. They show all sorts of things, some new, some old. I like the new ones mostly, see what all the fuss is about.
Now, how do you find out what movies are playin’? Well, you can look in the newspaper, if you still get one of those. They got little ads in there, tellin’ you what’s showin’ and when. Or you can ask around, folks always talkin’ about what they seen. But these days, everyone’s got them fancy phones, they just look it up on there. They call it “online,” I think. They type in somethin’ like “movies playing in theaters in New Canaan” and it just pops up, like magic! Shows you all the movies, the times, even tells you what other folks think of ’em. They call those “user ratings,” I reckon.
Speaking of what folks think, there’s this new movie out, called “Wicked.” Everyone’s goin’ on and on about it. Says it’s the “new champion at the box office.” Box office, that’s where they sell the tickets, I guess. Sounds like it’s a winner, might have to go see that one myself, if I can find the time. Gotta milk the cows first, you know.
- They got all sorts of movies, somethin’ for everyone, I guess. Action movies, with lots of shootin’ and fightin’.
- Funny movies, make you laugh till your sides hurt.
- Scary movies, keep you up at night, but I don’t watch those, too old for that nonsense.
- Then there’s romantic movies, you know, the lovey-dovey stuff.
If you want to know what’s new, you gotta look for “new movies this week” when you’re searchin’ on that phone thingy. They change ’em out pretty regular, so there’s always somethin’ different to see. And they got these “trailers” too, little snippets of the movie to get you interested. Sometimes they show too much, give away the whole story, I don’t like that.
Now, some of these movie places, they let you buy your tickets “online” too. Never done that myself, seems too complicated. I just go to the “box office” and get ’em from the person there. But I hear it’s faster, you can just walk right in, no waitin’ in line. Maybe one day I’ll try it, when I get one of them smart phones.
They got this place called “The Playhouse movie theater” in New Canaan. Folks say it’s a good one. You can “browse movie showtimes” there, see what’s playin’ and when. And you can buy tickets online there too, if you’re into that sort of thing. Me, I just like to show up and see what’s available.
And if you ain’t in New Canaan but close by, you can look for “movie theaters near 06840”, that’s the zip code for New Canaan I hear. That way you find a spot to see a picture show even if you a little ways out. It’s good to have choices, I always say.
So, that’s about all I know about movies in New Canaan. It ain’t much, but it’s enough for me. If you wanna know more, you gotta ask them young folks, they know all about this fancy technology stuff. Me, I’m just happy to sit down with some popcorn and enjoy a good story, plain and simple. It don’t take much to make an old woman happy.
Movie ratings is another thing them youngsters always looking at. They like to know if a movie is good afore they go see it. Me, I just take a chance. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it ain’t. That’s life, ain’t it? You win some, you lose some, and sometimes you just gotta sit through a bad movie ‘cause you already paid for the ticket.
And lastly, they have somethin’ called “release date” when they talk about movies. That just means when the movie first came out, I think. The new ones are always more popular, but sometimes them old ones are just as good, maybe even better. Like that movie “Gone with the Wind”, now that was a picture show! They don’t make ’em like that anymore, that’s for sure.
