Hi everyone. I am the writer and producer of this film and wanted to share a little trivia. The backstory on Ray's character is that he was a PEPE (People to Execute Pablo Escobar), which were the group of assassins that had the mission of finding and executing Pablo Escobar in Medellin, Colombia in 1993. PEPEs were a rag tag group made of bounty hunters, assassins, ex-military/special forces and family members of people that Escobar had killed who were looking for revenge. During Ray's character's search for Escobar he met a local Colombian woman and he fell in love. When Escobar's henchmen went looking for all PEPEs, including Ray's character, he was not at his home so the henchmen killed Ray's character's girlfriend. This event broke the character emotionally and he was never able to get a decent footing on life after that. He went from place to place and gig to gig trying to find meaning in life (without success). He became hooked on opiates and descended into further despair after a botched assassination attempt in Bogota in the mid 2000s where he killed an innocent woman — a woman in a Red Dress who haunts him throughout the movie. In 2007 the character gets the call to take out the head of the Tijuana cartel, which is where this story begins. No one has ever heard the backstory, because it was never written down before today. Ray and I just went over the backstory to give him a deeper understanding of the character. His performance was subtle and pitch perfect. I feel lucky to have had those moments with him. He will be missed.

The ending with Ray was very sad, I will not be a spoiler though. I think "Get the Gringo" may have used this movie as inspiration. RIP Ray- one of the greats gone too soon
