Alright, let’s talk about this Hawaii film festival thing, the 2023 one. I heard it was a big deal, lots of movies from all over. Hawaii film festival 2023, that’s what they call it, right? Sounds fancy.
Now, I ain’t no movie expert, you know? I like a good story, something that makes me laugh or cry, but all that fancy film talk, that’s not for me. But this festival, it seems like it had somethin’ for everyone. They said they had, what was it, 160 films? And from 45 different countries! That’s a whole lotta movies, ain’t it? Imagine sittin’ there watchin’ all them films. My backside would be sore for a week!
They showed these movies in Honolulu, that’s on some island called Oahu. And then they had some more showin’s on other islands too, like Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui. Sounds like a nice trip, if you ask me. See some pretty places and watch some movies. Not a bad deal.

- And it wasn’t just any old festival, they say it’s a big one for movies from Asia and the Pacific. You know, places like China, Japan, and all them islands out there.
- This Hawaii International Film Festival, it’s a place where they show off new movie makers, the young folks tryin’ to make a name for themselves. That’s good, I think. Gotta give the young’uns a chance.
This festival, they do it every year in November. That’s when it gets a little cooler, I hear, not so hot and sticky. And then they have a smaller one in March, just a little taste of what’s to come. They also teach folks about movies and help people who wanna make movies. That’s nice of ’em.
I heard tell they showed these movies in places called “vanguard forums.” Don’t know what that means, sounds like some fancy talk to me. Maybe it’s just a big movie theater? Or maybe it’s outside, under the stars? That would be nice, watchin’ a movie with the stars shinin’ above.
They had this festival, the 43rd one, they called it HIFF43. Sounds like they been doin’ this for a long time. 43 years, that’s a lot of movies, a lot of popcorn, and a lot of sore backsides, I bet. But folks seem to like it, so they keep doin’ it. And it’s not just in Hawaii, other places have film festivals too. I heard there’s one in Saudi Arabia, in a place called Jeddah. They showed a bunch of movies there too, from all over the world. And then there’s one in Indianapolis, Indiana. That’s in the middle of America, I think. So, movies are everywhere, it seems.
This whole movie festival thing, it’s kinda like a big party, I guess. People get together, watch movies, eat popcorn, and have a good time. And that’s alright. We all need a little fun now and then. So, if you ever get a chance to go to a film festival, maybe you should. Even if you ain’t no movie expert, you might just find somethin’ you like. And who knows, you might even learn a thing or two. But bring a cushion for your backside, you’re gonna be sittin’ for a while!
