Alright, alright, listen up ya’ll! October, yeah? That spooky month, it come sneakin’ up on us again, like a dang cat in the night. Faster than a squirrel up a tree, I tell ya. So, what we gonna do? We gonna watch some scary movies, that’s what! Gotta get them goosebumps goin’, right?
Now, some folks call it a “October Horror Movie Challenge”. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like some kinda big contest. But to me, it’s just plain fun. Pickin’ out some good ol’ scary flicks and watchin’ ’em all through October. Keeps things excitin’, you know?
I ain’t no expert on these here horror movies, mind you. I just watch what looks good. Sometimes it’s ghosts, sometimes it’s monsters, sometimes it’s just plain crazy people doin’ crazy things. Makes your hair stand on end, some of it does.
- Like that one about the devil, what was it called? “Late Night with the Devil”, yeah that’s it. Creepy stuff, let me tell ya. Had me lookin’ over my shoulder the whole night.
- Then there was that one in the woods, real nasty. “In a Violent Nature”, I think. Gore everwhere, not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.
- And who can forget them oldies? Like that “Hills Have Eyes” movie? Man, them folks in the desert, gettin’ chased around. Classic!
Now, some folks, they make a whole big list. Thirty-one movies, one for each day of October. That’s a lot of screamin’, I tell ya. But hey, if that’s your thing, go for it. Me? I just pick and choose. Whatever catches my eye, whatever gives me a good shiver down my spine.
This year, I reckon I’ll start with some of them newer ones. See what all the fuss is about. Then I’ll mix in some of the classics. You know, the ones that scared me when I was younger. They still hold up, most of ’em. Still make you jump outta your seat.
And it ain’t just about watchin’ the movies, ya know. It’s about the whole experience. Gettin’ your snacks ready, turnin’ down the lights, maybe even gettin’ a blanket to hide under. It’s like a little party, every night. A spooky party, but a party nonetheless.
Some folks, they like to watch these movies with other people. Makes it more fun, they say. You get to see everyone jump and scream together. Me? I like watchin’ ’em alone sometimes. Gets scarier that way, I think. You’re all by yourself, and every little sound makes you jump.
But it’s good, right? It’s good to be scared sometimes. Gets the blood flowin’, keeps you on your toes. And it’s all just pretend, anyway. Just movies. We all know that. But still, it’s fun to get lost in it, to let yourself believe, even just for a little while.
So, that’s my plan for October. Lots of scary movies. Lots of jumps and screams. Lots of hidin’ behind blankets. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll even sleep with the lights on a few nights. Don’t tell nobody, though. It’ll be our little secret.
And you know what else? There’s a whole bunch of folks out there who love doin’ this too. They got groups and forums and all sorts of things, just for talkin’ about scary movies. They share their lists, they give recommendations, they even argue about which movies are the scariest. It’s a whole community, you know? All bonded together by their love of bein’ scared. It’s a funny thing, ain’t it? People gettin’ together to scare the bejeebers outta themselves. But hey, whatever makes you happy, right?
So, if you’re lookin’ for something to do this October, somethin’ to spice things up a bit, I say give this here “horror movie challenge” a try. You might just surprise yourself. You might just find a new favorite movie. And you definitely, definitely, gonna get a good scare or two. Or thirty-one, if you’re really ambitious. But remember, start slow. Don’t wanna give yourself a heart attack on the first night. And most important of all, have fun! That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Just havin’ a good ol’ time, even if it means screamin’ your head off every now and then.
So go on, get your popcorn poppin’, dim them lights and get ready to be scared! Happy Halloween, ya’ll.
