Alright, alright, let me tell ya ‘bout this Bob Marley movie, “One Love,” like I saw it with my own two eyes, ya know? Don’t expect no fancy words from me, I just tell it like it is.
So, this movie, right? It’s all about Bob Marley, that fella with the dreadlocks and the songs everyone knows, even me, and I don’t listen to much music these days. The movie starts kinda sad, talking ‘bout how Bob died young, real young, only 36. Thirty-six! Why, my Billy was older than that when he went, God rest his soul.
Anyway, this actor, Kingsley Ben-something, he plays Bob Marley. And let me tell ya, he does a good job! He walks and talks just like Bob, even got that Jamaican way of speakin’ down pat. You know, the way they kinda sing their words a little? Yeah, he got that. It felt real, like I was watchin’ Bob himself up there on the screen.
- They show you Bob before he was famous, just a regular fella with big dreams.
- Then you see him makin’ music, gettin’ popular.
- And then all the troubles start.
See, Jamaica, where Bob comes from, it was a mess back then. Lots of fightin’ and arguin’ between different groups. Bob, he didn’t want no fightin’. He wanted everyone to just get along, love each other, ya know? “One Love,” that’s what he sang about. And that’s what this movie is about, too.
But some folks, they didn’t like Bob’s message. They thought he was causin’ trouble. There’s this part in the movie where some bad guys break into Bob’s house and try to hurt him and his wife, Rita. Scary stuff, I tell ya. It made me think of that time old man Johnson’s barn got robbed. Same kind of feelin’, that uneasy feelin’ in your gut.
Rita, she’s a strong woman, Bob’s wife. She stood by him through thick and thin. The movie shows how much they loved each other, and how they worked together to make the music. She sings too, got a beautiful voice. They had kids, lots of ‘em, and they tried to keep them safe, even when things got dangerous.
This movie, it ain’t just about the music, though there’s plenty of that. It’s about family, about standin’ up for what you believe in, and about tryin’ to make the world a better place. Bob, he used his music to talk about peace and love and unity. He wanted everyone to come together, no matter what they looked like or where they came from. He was a good man, Bob Marley, you can tell just by watchin’ this movie.
Now, I ain’t gonna lie, some parts of the movie are a little slow. Lots of talkin’ and arguin’ and whatnot. And there’s some parts that are kinda sad, especially when they talk about Bob gettin’ sick. But overall, it’s a good movie, worth seein’. It makes you think, ya know? Makes you think about how we treat each other and what kind of world we want to live in.
One thing I didn’t like though, was how they didn’t explain everything real clear. Like, some of them political things, they went over my head a bit. And some of the Jamaican words, I didn’t understand them all neither. But that’s alright, you still get the main idea.
So, if you like Bob Marley’s music, or if you just like a good story about a good man tryin’ to do good in the world, then you should go see this “One Love” movie. It ain’t perfect, but it’s got its heart in the right place, just like Bob himself.
And that’s all I got to say about it. Go see it yourself, then you can tell me what you thought. Maybe we can sit down with a cup of tea and talk about it. Now, where did I put my glasses…
