Alright, so you wanna know about this… uh… doo-pont… tee-jin… films… in the US, huh? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. It ain’t gonna be fancy, mind you. I ain’t no scholar or nothin’. Just a plain ol’ talker, that’s me.
So, first things first, they used to be called DuPont Teijin Films, but now, these smarty pants, they changed the name to Mylar Specialty Films. Mylar Specialty Films, got it? Sounds fancy, but it’s just the same stuff, I reckon. They make all sorts of them thin plastic sheets. You know, the kind you wrap yer leftovers in? Well, maybe not exactly that kind, but you get the picture. This stuff is special, they say.
- They got some that are super thin, like a spider web almost.
- And some that are thick as a… well, as a stack of pancakes, maybe.
They make ’em all, these folks do. And they don’t just make ’em for keepin’ food fresh, no sirree. They use this stuff for all kinda things. I heard tell they use it in airplanes and cars, and even for those fancy labels on things at the store. You know, the ones that sparkle and shine.
Now, this Mylar Specialty Films, they’re a big deal, I hear. One of the biggest in the world, makin’ this special plastic stuff. They got a big place down in Hopewell, that’s in the US of A. That’s where they run the show for this part of the world, I guess you could say. It’s their headquarters, or somethin’ like that. They send this stuff all over the place, I betcha.
High-Performance Polyester Films, that’s what they call ’em. Sounds important, doesn’t it? And I guess it is, if you’re into that kinda thing. They got all sorts of different types, too. Some that keep things from foggin’ up, and some that don’t let the light glare too much. They even got some for packin’ up medicine and stuff. Keeps it all safe and sound, I suppose.
This Mylar stuff, it’s made from somethin’ called PETF, if I remember right. Don’t ask me what that stands for, ’cause I ain’t got a clue. All I know is that it makes this here plastic film strong and… well, special, like I said before.

And there’s this other stuff they make, called Tedlar. Now, that’s a different name altogether, ain’t it? That Tedlar stuff, that’s made from somethin’ else, somethin’ with a long name like… poly- somethin’ or other. They use that stuff in airplanes too, and in other things that move around, like trains and buses, maybe.
Now, this whole Mylar Specialty Films thing, it’s a joint venture, they say. That means two big companies teamed up to make it happen. DuPont, that’s a name I’ve heard before, and Teijin, that’s a name I can barely pronounce. But they’re both in on it, sharin’ the work and the money, I reckon. They both own a piece of the pie, so to speak.
So, there you have it. That’s all I know about this Mylar Specialty Films, or whatever they call it these days. They make plastic sheets, thin and thick, for all sorts of things. They’re a big deal, and they’re right here in the US of A. Hope that makes some sense to ya, ’cause that’s all I got.
Mylar Films is a big player in making specialty films. From medical packaging to fancy labels, they’ve got it covered. Their Hopewell headquarters manages all the US operations, and their products come in a wide range of thicknesses, from really thin to really thick, ensuring they meet the needs of different industries. Whether it’s preventing fog or glare, or providing a durable barrier, Mylar Specialty Films seems to have a solution for everything.
