Alright, let’s talk about this At Home in Mitford movie, you know, the one they made from that book. I ain’t read the book, mind you, too busy with my chickens and whatnot. But I watched the movie, so I can tell you a thing or two.

First off, this fella, Father Tim, he’s the main guy. A preacher, you know? Episcopal, they call it. Sounds fancy, but he’s just a regular fella, a bit old, maybe my age, maybe a bit younger. Lives in this town, Mitford, which is supposed to be all sweet and charming.

  • It’s about a preacher man and a small town.
  • There’s a big ol’ dog named Barnabas.
  • It’s supposed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Now, they got this dog in the movie, Barnabas. Biggest dog I ever did see! They say he’s a mix of somethin’, but he looks like a big, fluffy bear to me. This dog, he’s Father Tim’s best friend, follows him everywhere. Reminds me of old Blue, my husband’s dog, God rest his soul. Always underfoot, that dog was.

The movie, well, it’s slow. Real slow. Not much happens, you know? It’s all about people talkin’ and feelin’ things. Father Tim, he meets this woman, and they kinda like each other, but it takes them forever to do anything about it. It’s all very… proper, I guess you could say. Not like them city folks on TV, always in a hurry.

Folks in Mitford, they got their problems, sure. But it ain’t nothin’ like what you see on the news. No shootin’s or car chases, thank the Lord. Just regular folks with regular worries. Like, will the church roof get fixed? And will Father Tim ever find himself a good woman? That kinda stuff.

Some folks, they say this movie is heartwarming. Yeah, I guess it is, in a way. It’s kinda like sittin’ on the porch with a glass of sweet tea, watchin’ the sun go down. Peaceful, you know? Nothin’ fancy, just… nice. But if you’re lookin’ for action or excitement, well, you ain’t gonna find it here. This ain’t no Fast and Furious, that’s for sure.

The acting, well, it’s alright. Father Tim, he seems like a good man, kinda quiet. The lady he likes, she’s pretty, got a nice smile. And the dog, well, the dog steals the show, if you ask me. Dogs always do, don’t they? They just know how to make you feel good.

I heard they made a whole bunch of books about Mitford, this town and these people. The Mitford Years, they call it. Guess folks like readin’ about simple things, about good people. Maybe that’s why they made the movie too. We got enough trouble in the world, sometimes you just wanna watch somethin’ that makes you feel… good. You know?

So, would I recommend this At Home in Mitford movie? Well, it depends. If you like fast cars and explosions, then no, stay away. But if you like a slow, sweet story about regular folks, then give it a try. Just don’t expect too much excitement. It’s like a warm cup of cocoa on a cold night – it’ll warm you up, but it ain’t gonna set the world on fire. And that’s just fine by me. Sometimes, that’s all you need.

Now, I gotta go feed them chickens. They gettin’ restless, those girls. Always wantin’ somethin’. Just like people, I reckon.
