Alright, let’s talk about them movie places in New Bedford, Massachusetts, you know, where you go to see them pictures move on the big screen. I ain’t no fancy city gal, so I’ll tell it to ya straight, like it is.
First off, you wanna find movie showtimes, right? That’s what my grandkids always yellin’ about. “Grandma, what time’s the new superhero movie playin’?” Well, you gotta look it up, I guess. They got these here “Atom Tickets” things, whatever those are. Sounds complicated to me. I just ask my grandson to do it. He’s good with them computery things.
And then there’s the movie theaters near New Bedford. Now, I ain’t been to all of ’em, mind you. Too much fuss for this old lady. But I hear there’s a bunch. Some fancy ones with big seats, and some not so fancy, just plain ol’ chairs. Makes no difference to me, long as I can see the picture good. My eyes ain’t what they used to be, ya know.
They got these new movies in theaters all the time. Every week, it seems like. One week it’s about robots fightin’, the next it’s some lovey-dovey story. I like the ones with the singin’ and dancin’. Reminds me of when I was a young gal, twirlin’ around at the town square dances.
- Showtimes: Gotta find out when the movie’s playin’, so you don’t miss the start.
- Ratings: They got them letters, like PG-13 and R. Means if it’s okay for the young’uns to watch. I don’t pay much mind to ‘em, If I don’t like it, I just close my eyes.
- Trailers: Those little bits of the movie they show you before the real thing. Sometimes they give away too much, spoil the whole dang surprise.
Now, if you wanna know what’s the best cinema in New Bedford, that’s a tough one. Everyone’s got their own opinion. Some folks like them big fancy places like the AMC somethin’ or other at the mall. Too crowded for me. I went there once, got lost tryin’ to find the bathroom. Ended up in the popcorn storage room, almost got buried in kernels! My grandson likes that Showcase place, says the seats are comfy. Then there’s the Picture Show, that’s supposed to be cheaper, which is good for my pocketbook. And that old Strand Theatre downtown, that place is history. Been there forever, they say. Never been inside myself, they say it’s beautiful.
And speaking of prices, them movie tickets ain’t cheap no more. Heard tell they cost a pretty penny in some places. Eleven dollars and somethin’, even more in them big cities! Back in my day, you could see a picture for a nickel and a bag of popcorn for a dime. Times sure have changed. But they got this thing on Tuesdays, where you can get tickets cheaper. That’s a good deal, if you can go on a Tuesday. I’m usually busy makin’ cookies on Tuesdays, but maybe I’ll sneak out one of these days.
So, there you have it. A little bit about them movie theaters in New Bedford, from a plain ol’ gal who don’t know much about fancy stuff. Just go find a showtime, pick a movie, and enjoy yourself. And don’t forget to bring a sweater, those theaters get chilly!
Oh, and one more thing. I heard tell there ain’t no movie theaters in them Turks and Caicos Islands. And somewhere up in Canada, they got the smallest movie theater in the world! Can you believe that? World’s a funny place. Now get outta here, and go watch a picture!
