Alright, let’s gab a bit about this movie theater thing in New Iberia, you know, the place where they show them picture shows. I ain’t no fancy movie expert or nothin’, but I do like to go watch a good story now and then, especially when my grandkids drag me along.
First off, finding the darn place ain’t always easy. You gotta know where to look, right? Lucky for us, there’s this here “Grand 10” in New Iberia. That’s the one everyone goes to mostly. They got all sorts of movies, the new ones and I guess some old ones too, I don’t pay too much attention to that.
Now, when you get there, you gotta figure out where to sit. This is important, ya know, ’cause you don’t wanna be craning your neck the whole time. Some folks say the best spot is right smack in the middle, not too close, not too far. Makes sense, I guess. You can see the whole screen without movin’ your head too much. They say it’s like two-thirds of the way back or somethin’. I just try to find a spot where I ain’t gonna get a crick in my neck.
And let me tell ya, them seats ain’t always the comfiest. Some of them new theaters got them fancy recliners, but this one here, well, it’s alright. Just don’t expect no plushy sofas or nothin’. You get a seat, it goes up and down, that’s about it.
Finding movie times, that’s another thing. I ain’t too good with that computer stuff, but my grandkids, they’re always lookin’ up showtimes on that “Fandango” thing or somethin’. Sounds like a dance, but it tells you when the movies are playin’. They also use that “IMDb”, whatever that is, to find out movie times. Seems like they always know what’s playin’ and when. Me? I just ask ’em when we’re goin’, and they tell me. It’s easier that way, you know?
- They got all sorts of movies playin’
- New ones, old ones, all kinds
- You can find showtimes online, but I just ask my grandkids
- The seats are okay, nothin’ fancy
Then there’s the movies themselves. Lord, they make all sorts of things these days. Sometimes it’s cowboys and Indians, sometimes it’s spaceships and aliens, and sometimes it’s just people talkin’ a lot. I like the ones that make me laugh, or maybe a good cry every now and then. Them scary ones, though, I ain’t too fond of them. Makes my heart race too much.
And the snacks! Don’t even get me started on the snacks. Popcorn, candy, soda, the whole shebang. Costs an arm and a leg, but what’s a movie without popcorn, right? I always sneak in a few candies in my purse though, don’t tell nobody! Them prices at the counter are highway robbery, I tell ya.
Speaking of prices, going to the movies ain’t cheap these days. Between the tickets and the snacks, you’re lookin’ at a pretty penny. That’s why I don’t go too often. Only when the grandkids are beggin’ me or when there’s a special movie I really want to see. And you know with them youngsters they’re always wanting to see the new movies and them streaming movies they get on “Netflix”. They always talking about what’s new on Netflix this and Netflix that. I tell ya, I can’t keep up. It’s all just moving pictures to me, whether it’s at the movie theater or on the TV.
But, all in all, going to the movies in New Iberia, at that Grand 10 place, it’s a nice way to spend an afternoon or evening. Gets you out of the house, gives you somethin’ to talk about. And seeing the grandkids happy, well, that’s worth more than all the popcorn and movie tickets in the world.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do in New Iberia and you don’t mind spendin’ a little money, go catch a movie. Just remember to find a good seat, bring some extra cash for snacks, and maybe a sweater, ’cause sometimes them theaters get cold.
And don’t forget to ask your grandkids for help with the showtimes. They know more about that stuff than I ever will.
