Okay, so I saw this wild title floating around – “horror movies that are basically porn.” I was like, “What?! No way, that’s gotta be clickbait.” But my morbid curiosity got the better of me, and I had to investigate. I mean, it’s a pretty bold claim, right?
First thing I did was fire up Google. I typed in the title, fingers crossed I wouldn’t immediately stumble onto something I couldn’t unsee. The initial results were mostly forum discussions and listicles. Lots of people arguing about what qualified, which movies were truly “horror,” and which were just straight-up exploitation.
Diving Deep into the Rabbit Hole
The discussions were a mess. Half the people were acting all offended, and the other half were dropping movie titles like they were trading baseball cards. I grabbed a few of the most frequently mentioned ones, and added to my list. I felt a little weird to write them down, but I was already in too deep!
- A Serbian Film – Heard this one mentioned, but people were saying it’s messed up.
- Caligula – old movie, and some people insisted it was just shocking for its time.
- Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom – the name alone gives me the creeps.
I felt like I needed a shower just from reading the descriptions. There was a lot of talk about extreme violence, sexual assault, and just general depravity. Not exactly my idea of a fun movie night. To be honest,I am not brave enough to watch all of them, just saw some parts.
So, after spending a good few hours sifting through all this, did I find any horror movies that are “basically porn”?
Well, it’s all subjective, I guess. But for me? It was a definite “eww”. My search history is probably flagged by now, and I think I’ll stick to regular horror movies from here on out. At least I can say I tried, I guess?
