Alright, alright, let’s talk about this Barbie movie, ya hear? Folks been yappin’ about it somethin’ fierce, and I figured I’d throw my two cents in, even though I ain’t no fancy movie critic or nothin’.
So, this Barbie gal, she’s livin’ in this perfect pink world, all dolled up and happy-go-lucky. But then things start gettin’ weird, ya know? She starts thinkin’ about stuff, like death and flat feet, and it ain’t pretty. Kinda like when my old cow, Bess, started wanderin’ off and starin’ at the sky before she… well, you know.
Anyway, Barbie has to go to the real world, and things ain’t so pink and perfect there neither. Men are kinda dumb, and women are tryin’ to figure out their place. Reminds me of the county fair, to be honest. Men struttin’ around like roosters, and women workin’ their tails off bakin’ pies and whatnot.
Now, some folks are sayin’ this movie ain’t for Christians. They say it’s too woke, too much talk about feminism and patriarchy. Big words, them. But I reckon it ain’t so bad. See, the movie does make you think. It makes you think about what it means to be a woman, what it means to be a man, and what it means to be happy. And that ain’t a bad thing, is it? Even the Bible talks about treatin’ each other right, and this movie, in its own way, kinda gets at that.
- It’s got some funny parts, for sure. Ryan Gosling, that Ken fella, he’s a hoot. All goofy and loves horses, just like my nephew Billy.
- And Barbie, she’s pretty as a picture, but she’s also got a good heart. Reminds me of my granddaughter, always tryin’ to make things better, even when they’re a mess.
But I ain’t gonna lie, there are some parts that made me scratch my head. Lots of talk about feelings and bein’ yourself. Which is fine, I guess, but sometimes you just gotta get the work done, ya know? Can’t be moonin’ around all day like a lost calf.
And some of the outfits, well, let’s just say they weren’t somethin’ I’d wear to church. But then again, I ain’t exactly a fashion icon neither. My Sunday best is a clean apron and a hat that keeps the sun outta my eyes.
Folks are worried about the message it sends, especially to young girls. But I think kids are smarter than we give ‘em credit for. They can see it’s just a movie, a story. Like them fairy tales my grandma used to tell me. They ain’t real, but they can teach you somethin’.
So, should Christians go see this Barbie movie? Well, I ain’t gonna tell you what to do. But I don’t see no harm in it. It ain’t gonna turn you into a heathen or nothin’. It might even make you think a little bit, and that’s never a bad thing. It’s got laughs, it’s got heart, and it’s got some pretty colors to look at. Just go in with an open mind, and don’t take it too serious. It’s just a movie, after all, not a sermon.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed my chickens. They’re squawkin’ louder than a bunch of gossips at a town meeting.
In the end, it’s up to each person to decide. The Bible don’t say what movies you can and can’t watch. But it does say to be good and do good. And this movie, well, I think it tries to do that, in its own Barbie way.
So that’s my take on it. Nothin’ fancy, just plain talk from an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. Take it or leave it, makes no difference to me. I just hope this here review helps you make up your mind.
