Okay, so today I wanted to talk about my experience trying to figure out this whole “Netflix Technical Program Manager” thing. It was a bit of a ride, let me tell you.
First off, I started by just poking around online, you know, the usual Google search. I was trying to get a feel for what this job even was. I read through a bunch of different job descriptions, checked out some forums, and even watched a few videos of people talking about their experiences.
My Research Phase
- Spent hours just scrolling through job boards.
- Tried to make sense of all the jargon and buzzwords.
- Got a little overwhelmed, to be honest, with all the information.
Then, I decided to get a bit more organized. I made a spreadsheet to keep track of all the different skills and qualifications that kept popping up. I started to notice some patterns. It seemed like they wanted people who were good at, like, everything: project management, communication, technical stuff, you name it.
After that, I figured I should probably try to, you know, actually learn some of this stuff. So I signed up for a couple of online courses on project management. I dusted off some old textbooks from my college days and brushed up on my technical skills. It was a lot of late nights and weekends, but I started to feel like I was making some progress.
Getting My Hands Dirty
- Enrolled in some online project management courses.
- Hit the books, just like the old college days, only with less fun.
- Started working on some personal projects to practice my skills.
Next, I thought it would be a good idea to try and connect with some people who actually work at Netflix or have experience in this role. I sent out a bunch of messages on professional networking platforms, and surprisingly, a few people actually got back to me. I had some really helpful conversations, got some great advice, and even made a few connections.
Finally, I felt like I was ready to start applying for some jobs. I spent hours tailoring my resume and cover letter for each position. I practiced my interview skills with friends and family. And then, I just started applying. I sent out dozens of applications, went through a bunch of interviews, and eventually, I landed an offer!
The Final Stretch
- Reached out to people in the field and actually heard back.
- Polished my resume until it was perfect.
- Applied, interviewed, and waited. And waited. And waited.
So yeah, that’s basically my journey to becoming a Netflix Technical Program Manager. It was a lot of hard work, a lot of learning, and a lot of, you know, just figuring things out as I went. But in the end, it was definitely worth it. I learned that I can do more than I thought was possible. It was a tough process, but looking back, I’m glad I went through it.
