Well, let me tell you, I seen a lot in my day. Seen a lot of scary stuff on that there TV, and them moving pictures. Gives me the willies sometimes, I tell ya. But some folks, they just eat that stuff up. They like being scared, I guess. So they read them books about them horror movies. And, well, if you’re one of them folks, I reckon I can tell ya a thing or two about the best books on horror movies.

Now, I ain’t no fancy book reader, but I hear things. I hear folks talkin’ ’bout this book and that book. And some of them books, they sound right up your alley if you like them scary pictures. They write books about all kinds of things in them movies, you see. Some are about them creepy crawlies, and some are about them things that go bump in the night. Some books, they just about the people in the pictures. The people that make you feel like you’re right there with them, scared out of your wits. That’s what they tell me, anyway.

One of them books I heard about, it’s called, uh, “Shock Value”. Sounds like a doozy, don’t it? Supposed to be a real good one. This fella, Jason, I think his name was, wrote it. He must know a thing or two. Folks say it tells a story, a real story about them horror movies. That’s a good horror movie book. Not just a bunch of facts and figures, but a real story. Like when your neighbor tells you about that old house down the road, the one everyone says is haunted. That kind of story.

There are some other horror movie books too. A whole bunch of them. They talk about all them scary movies you see on TV. Like that one with the little girl, she gets all twisted up and talks in a funny voice. Scared the pants off me, that one did. I think they made a book about that movie. It is one of the best books on horror movies. The name is “The Exorcist”. I don’t know, sounds kinda religious to me. But they say it’s scary as all get out.

And there’s this other fella, I think his name is, uh, Stephen King. Now, he writes a lot of them scary books. He wrote one about a pet cemetery. Now, ain’t that a morbid thought? Burying your pets and them comin’ back… all wrong. I reckon there are some books about that movie, too. This Stephen King, he must really like them horror movies. “IT” is another one, scary clown! No, thank you. Don’t like clowns, never have. He also writes “Christine”, “Needful Things” and “Revival”.

Here’s a list of other books that ain’t about specific movies, but about the whole shebang of scary pictures. These books got some depth, not shallow, no. They are psychological, I think.

  • “Mary”
  • “The Troop”

Then, there is this other one, Dean. Dean Koontz, that’s it. That name always gave me the chills for some reason. He’s got a whole stack of scary stories, too. I remember hearin’ about “Twilight Eyes” and “Phantoms”. And there are other writers, such as JG Faherty. He wrote “The Burning Time”, “Cemetery Club”, “Sins of the Father”, “Ragman” and “The Wakening”. Just the names make you feel uneasy. I bet that JG knows a lot about horror movies.

I tell ya, there are more books about them horror movies than you can shake a stick at. And if you like being scared, well, then I reckon you oughta check ’em out. Just don’t come cryin’ to me when you can’t sleep at night. I warned ya, them things can be mighty frightful. I think you must have some guts to be able to read the best books on horror movies.

Now, I ain’t sayin’ I believe all that stuff in them movies. But sometimes, when the wind howls just right, and the shadows get long, well, you start to wonder. You start to wonder if maybe, just maybe, there’s somethin’ to all them scary stories after all. Don’t you think so? You young folks might not think so. But we’ve seen things, heard things. Things that make your hair stand on end. So many scary things in this old world. Makes you think.

But like I said, if you like that kinda thing, then them books are probably for you. Just don’t blame me if you start seein’ things in the dark. You go readin’ them books about monsters and ghosts, well, you just might start believin’ in ’em. And that, my friend, is a whole other can of worms. It is not easy to deal with. You have been warned. But, hey, what do I know? I’m just an old lady. Just an old lady who’s seen a thing or two, that’s all. You do you, I guess. Go on and read your scary books. Just don’t say I didn’t warn ya. These are the best books on horror movies, as far as I know.
