Alright, so the other day I was thinking, “What are the best horror movies of the century?” It’s a big question, right? So I decided to dive in and figure it out for myself.
First, I started by making a huge list. I mean, I wrote down every horror movie I could think of from the past 20-something years. Then I started browsing online and looked up a bunch of “best horror movies” lists. There were tons, from sites like Collider and all those other movie review places. I added more movies to my list from those, especially ones that kept popping up.
Then, I started thinking about what makes a horror movie truly great. Is it just about the scares? Or is there more to it? I figured it’s a mix of things: how much it freaks you out, sure, but also how well it’s made, the story, the characters, and even how important it is to the whole horror genre.
- Started jotting down notes on each movie. Stuff like:
- How scary is it?
- Is it just jump scares or is it like, psychologically terrifying?
- How’s the acting?
- Does it have a good story or is it just gore for the sake of gore?
After that, I watched a bunch of these movies again, especially the ones I hadn’t seen in a while. Some of them, like The Thing and The Shining, are classics for a reason. They’re not just scary, they’re like, masterpieces of filmmaking. Others, like some from the Saw series, were more about the crazy gore, which is cool if you’re into that. Possession, man, that one’s just wild. Totally messed up but in a really artistic way.
I also tried to think about older stuff, like Nosferatu. That movie’s ancient but still creepy as hell. It’s important to see where the whole genre started, you know?
It was a lot of work, honestly. Spent days watching movies, taking notes, and comparing my thoughts with those “expert” lists. Eventually, I started narrowing it down. Moved some movies up, dropped others. It was tough because everyone has different tastes, but I tried to be as fair as possible.
Finally, I ended up with my own personal list of the best horror movies of the century. It’s got a bit of everything: old and new, super scary and just kinda creepy, gory and psychological. It was a fun project, and it definitely made me appreciate how many awesome horror movies are out there.
