Alright, so you’re lookin’ for movies like “The Hours”, huh? That one with all them fancy actresses. Meryl Streep and that Kidman gal, yeah. I seen it once, kinda slow, but them women sure did cry a lot. If you like that kinda stuff, I got a few ideas for ya, movies that make ya think, or maybe just make ya cry, same difference sometimes, right?
Now, I ain’t no fancy movie expert, but I watch my share of TV. Used to be, we just had the one channel, but now, with that Netflix thing, and all them other whatchamacallits, it’s like a whole ‘nother world. So, I’ve seen some things, you know?
Movies that make you think:
If you like movies where folks are all thinkin’ and feelin’ deep thoughts, like in “The Hours”, you might wanna try some others. I remember seein’ one called “Lost in Translation.” Didn’t really understand all of it, to be honest, but it had that same kinda feelin’, you know? People kinda lost and lonely, even when they’re surrounded by others. And that “Mulholland Drive” one, that was a real head-scratcher. Dreams inside of dreams, or somethin’ like that. Made my head spin, but it kept me thinkin’ long after it was over. If you want a long one, try that Hungarian one, “Stntang” I think they called it. Lord, it went on forever, but it was somethin’ else, all about them villagers and their troubles.
- “Lost in Translation” – Quiet, folks not sayin’ much, but feelin’ a whole lot.
- “Mulholland Drive” – Confusin’, but pretty. You’ll be tryin’ to figure it out for days.
- “Stntang” – Long one, about a village, lots of drama.
Movies with strong women:
Now, “The Hours” had some strong women, right? All them actresses playin’ real complicated characters. If you like that, there’s plenty more where that came from. “Kill Bill” ain’t nothin’ like “The Hours”, mind you, but that Uma Thurman, she’s one tough cookie. Revenge and all that. Not my cup of tea, all that fightin’, but she was somethin’ else. And Julianne Moore, she was in another one called “Still Alice”, playin’ a lady with that memory problem. Broke my heart, it did. Meryl Streep, she’s always playin’ someone strong, but I can’t remember half the movies she’s been in, to be honest. Too many.

Movies that are just plain long:
You know, some movies just go on and on. Like that “The Hours”, felt like it took forever. If you like long movies, there’s that “The Wolf of Wall Street”, about that fella who made a lot of money and then got in trouble. Three hours long, that one was. And them “Lord of the Rings” movies, don’t even get me started. Hours and hours of walkin’ and talkin’ and fightin’. Pretty to look at, but my legs started hurtin’ just watchin’ ’em.
Something a little different:
Now, if you want somethin’ a little different, but still kinda gets under your skin, you might try somethin’ like “Get Out”. That one’s a thriller, but it also makes you think about things, you know? About how people treat each other. It ain’t nothin’ like “The Hours”, but it stays with you. Or that “Dark Knight” movie, all about that Batman fella. Lots of action, but also about good and evil and all that.
So there you have it. A few ideas for ya. Movies like “The Hours”, movies that make you think, movies with strong women, movies that are long, and movies that are just different. Hope you find somethin’ you like. And if you don’t, well, that’s alright too. Just go turn on the TV, there’s always somethin’ on, even if it’s just that fella sellin’ them fancy knives.

Remember, these are just my opinions, I ain’t no critic or nothin’, just a lady who watches a lot of TV. You might like ’em, you might not. That’s the way it goes.
