Well, howdy there, y’all! Let’s talk about this “capture on film” thing, like them fancy crossword folks are always goin’ on about. Sounds complicated, but it ain’t really. It’s just about takin’ a picture, you know? Like, when you point your camera and snap a photo, that’s capturin’ it on film, or whatever they use these days. These city folks and their fancy words, I swear!
Now, them crossword puzzles, they like to make things tricky. They ask for “capture on film” but they could mean a whole bunch of things. Sometimes they want a short word, sometimes a long one. Drives me nuts! It’s like tryin’ to catch a greased pig at the county fair.
- Sometimes, the answer might be just plain “FILM“. Easy peasy, right? Even I can figure that one out.
- Other times, they might want somethin’ like “RECORD“. ‘Cause you’re recordin’ what you see, get it? Like when you write down what your neighbor owes ya for that prize-winning pumpkin.
- And then there’s “SHOOT“. Like, you “shoot” a picture. Makes sense, I guess, though I prefer shootin’ varmints in the garden myself.
I saw one of them crosswords the other day, asked for a five-letter word. Took me a while, but I figured it out. It was “TAKEN“. See? You “taken” a picture. They try to be all clever, but it’s just plain English, if you ask me.
Then there are them longer words. I heard tell of a thirteen-letter word for “capture on film”. Can you believe it? Thirteen letters! What in tarnation could that be? Well, turns out it was somethin’ like “PHOTOGRAPHED“. Land sakes, that’s a mouthful. Why use such a big word when a small one will do just fine?
It’s all about what kind of crossword puzzle it is, see? Some of them are quick little things, like the ones in the newspaper. They usually want short answers. Others are big and fancy, like the ones my grandson does on his computer – now that’s a contraption! – and they want them big, long words. Makes a body tired just thinkin’ about it.
And don’t even get me started on all the different places you can find these clues. They’re in the daily paper, in them big city newspapers like that New York Times my niece reads, even in them magazines at the beauty parlor. It’s like they’re everywhere! You can’t escape ‘em.

So, next time you see “capture on film” in a crossword puzzle, don’t you go gettin’ all flustered. Just think about what kind of word they might be lookin’ for. Short or long? Simple or fancy? And if you get stuck, just ask your neighbor. Or better yet, bake ’em a pie. Folks are always more helpful after a slice of good ol’ apple pie.
This whole crossword business started a long, long time ago, I hear. Some fella back in the day, way before any of us were born, he came up with it. And folks have been scratching their heads over these things ever since. Honestly, I don’t see the point. Give me a good quilting bee any day of the week.
Anyway, that’s my two cents on this “capture on film” hoo-ha. Hope it helps you city slickers with your fancy puzzles. Now if you’ll excuse me, I got to go check on my chickens. And maybe bake a pie. Just in case another crossword clue comes along.
Remember, when you see “capture on film,” think simple: FILM, TAKEN, SHOT, maybe even PHOTOGRAPHED if they’re feelin’ fancy. Don’t let them crossword puzzles get the best of ya!
