Charlize Theron’s daughters weren’t too fond of her hair makeover in The Old Guard 2.
During a Tuesday appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host confirmed that the Oscar winner sported a “real mullet” for the film as opposed to wearing a wig. Meyers further asked Theron what her children thought about the new hairdo, to which she admitted that one of her daughters began crying when they saw the change.
“I was in my bathroom and I was getting it cut and it had been already colored, and I just remember looking over and they both came into the room really excited, and then they just both froze,” she said. “And they just went [blank] and one started crying. One [of my kids] literally started bawling her eyes out.”
Theron said that after her reaction, she had to have a conversation with her child about her new hairstyle: “I had to actually sit down with her and say, ‘We all get to be who we want to be, and right now, mom wants to wear a mullet. I don’t tell you what to do with your hair.’”

Still, they weren’t too happy with the change. The actress added that her children are “mostly very girly, and they think of me as a princess, and they want mom to look like a princess.”
Despite her daughter’s preferences, Theron said that she tends to “veer more towards the kind of edgy” and “masculine” style, often opting to wear “jeans and [a] T-shirt.”
“When I go to school functions, my daughter’s always like, ‘Mom, can you please wear a dress?’” she joked.
Theron is set to star in The Old Guard sequel alongside Uma Thurman, Henry Golding, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The new film will arrive July 2 on Netflix.
